Organ Donation

Have you, or do you know someone who has donated an organ, or recieved an organ? I am signed up to be an organ donor when I die. My godfather died while on the list to recieve a lung transplant (he had Cystic Fibrosis). Since then it was clear I'd be an organ donor when I died. I know there are a few organs I can donate while I'm alive, but I haven't done so. I don't know if I would either, unless it was my own child. I'd donate an organ in a heartbeat to one of my children. But I don't think I would for anyone else. I'd reserve my organs just in case one of my children does need it someday. I saw an episode of ER once where the dad killed himself so that his daughter could have his only remaining kidney. I'd do that too if it meant saving the life of my child. How about you?

HI Kats: I saw that same episode on ER, and it was really a sad one wasn't it but what a loving gesture too, to save his child; I've been listed as an Organ donor for years but each year as my own health deteriorates, they wouldn't accept anything I have I doubt? Maybe but I doubt it. I can't even give blood, haven't been able to for years, it sucks!! I would have done anything to help my brother or Mother when they were sick and dying but there was nothing I could do with anything with my organs; great subject though!! right now I think about the only thing that would be usable might be my eyes who knows for sure? I know it would be up to the doctor's where ever I might be at that time;

Sometimes I think the same thing, but who knows. All the stuff they can use, I am amazed everyday at what they can find uses for!

It is a noble thing to volunteer to be an organ donor. I actually think that the government should make it law that by default everyone is assumed organ donor unless they registered with a particular government body they want it otherwise. I believe that most people don't mind to be an organ donor but that when they die, their family members may not think it the same way. Making it law to require everyone respect to the donor's will is important to save more people by organ transplant.

I signed up to be an organ donor too. I don't think I would give any away while I was alive either unless it was to one of my children. I would be afraid that I would give it away and then my kids would need it. Although I guess I could be tested against my kids and my husband to see if it was a match. If it wasn't a match then I would consider giving it to someone else. I would do whatever i could to save my child, but i don't think i could kill myself considering I have 3 children. that wouldn't be fair to the other two.

I saw that episode too. For my kids I know I would donate. And probably would donate to others too. If/when I die, it isn't like I'll need them. Guess I should sign the back of my ID.

If anybody of my family needs my organ I will heartily give it. If I will die then it's better that other people can benefit my other organ than left it rotting in the grave.
