Ok - now to me, the logical answer would be no b/c of second hand smoking. I am a smoker but do not smoke infront of my children, whether it be at home or in the car. However, I have many friends who smoke in a car with their kids and they dont' think it matters as long as the windows are down. In toronto, there is a law which prohibits ppl from smoking in cars that have kids under 16. Today I read that a lady was fined for smoking in the car with her kids..So tell me, if you are a smoker, would you smoke if your kids are in the car with you??

I also smoke but not when my children are around me. My oldest daughter's dad came to pick her up one day and he went to light up in the car and she told him he wasn't allowed to smoke in the car (It's the law in Ontario) and he couldn't believe it (he lives in Alberta). I completely forgot that he smoked and also forgot to mention it. I gave my daughter a high five when she told me.

She did a very good job communicating that to her father! Kudos to your daughter!

Hey Jaydee - Did you hear about the women who got charged today? Not sure what part of Ontario you are from though, so it may not have been news in your part of ON. It's very smart of your daughter to tell her father the rules...

Hey, I didn't hear about the woman who got charged but it really wouldn't surprise me. There are still a lot of people who are smoking in their car while the children are with them. Either they've been living under a rock and haven't heard this law or they are just not taking it seriously enough.

I smoke and my granddaughter who is four rides in my car from time to time....i don't smoke in front of her....not even in my own home...that air that she breathes should be clean and healthy.....so I don't smoke in the car when she is around....and if I am picking her up I don't smoke in the car.....I make sure it's smokefree.

I hear ya Jill :) I TRY not to smoke in the car even when the kids aren't in there. I must admit that at times, I will smoke in the car if they are NOT there...but I find that the smell lingers on and it's so hard to get rid of it. I definetly do not smoke in the house and neither does my husband. It's too much trouble trying to mask the smell...BEsides, although my oldest daugther knows that I smoke, I still don't want to condone the behaviour by smokign infront of her :)

No, I do not smoke when they are in the car with me. I've made it clear to my husband that he shouldn't either. I remember when I was a child my parents smoked when my sister and I were with them. I didn't like the smell at all (and I'm sure that breathing the smoke didn't help, either). I swore that I would never smoke. Both my sister and I later became smokers. But I still remember how much I hated it when I was younger. Our two boys know that we smoke, and I admit that I do smoke in my car when they aren't with me. I just don't want to subject them to what I hated. I am thinking about quitting soon.

No because a second hand smoking is more dangerous for the health especially to children. Another thing is that if ever I have a child, I would try to be a good example for them. Knowing that smoking is dangerous to our health, at a young age I would educate them about the things that might happen to their bodies as well as the people around them and their surroundings if they smoke.

i don't smoke, it's bad for the health, and once you've tasted it, you've always wanted it, so i don't have to try it either, it's better to keep your lungs as healthy as ever.

hey my friend - good for you :) I agree that it is bad for your health..I would love to quit, but it's hard. It's best not to ever start it b/c that way you won't have to go through the trouble of trying to quit...Good for you :) keep on mylotting..

Let me answer your question first, no, I would not smoke as long as my kids are in the same place with me. We all know that smoking is hazardous to health. There is no reason to force my kids to inhale something that is known hazardous to health, I suppose. Now, I have a question for you. Why you will choose not to smoke when your kids are in your car with you? I mean if you also think that smoking is hazardous, why you smoke? Have you considered quit smoking?

I am also a smoker. Our kids are adults now so I would smoke in the car if they were with me. Two of our kids don's smoke so most likely I would wait until we were out of the car. Our oldest daughter smokes so we smoke together in the car. I believe there is a law in the US also prohibiting a parent or anyone smoking in the car when infants or kids are also in the car. I wouldn't smoke if I was in the car with our grandkids. Don't want to expose them to smoke. I go outside to smoke if I'm around the grandkids. When our kids were small there wasn't a concern about second hand smoking like there is today. I can recall sitting in the doctor's office, OB-Gyn, discussing my pregnancy and the dr. and I were both smoking. But times have changed and it's not a good idea to smoke while pregnant. Our kids are healthy even though I was a smoker while carrying all three girls.
