How much of the email you get is SPAM

I get endless amounts of SPAM emails. I have 14 seperate email boxes and in every one of them I would estimate that I get about 80% of the messages that are SPAM. I hat wasting my time having to delete SPAM all the time. I also hate that your email service providers are the ones who put it in your box! Because it is a free service that they are providing this gives them the right to collect information about the emails that you receive so they can direct offers from their "marketing partners" to your email box that they think you may be interested in. They promise not to sell your information and they don't sell it persae they just sell advertisers access to sending a certain number of their email clients a promotional email. Well this has become quite a big business for the email service providers. Unfortunately the more SPAM you get, the more you get, because their data harvesters take the meta tags from those emails too and generates the report that you get mails about this, this, and this, so they may want ..... It just becomes a vicious cycle where more and more SPAM is piled up in yuor email box, requiring hours sometimes to go through your various email boxes and delete all that carp.

This is a really good discussion, because it seems almost everyone has an email address that they use to email their friends and family, order things offline or use when it comes to sites where they make money like mylot, and I know there are a lot of different email providers like AOL,Gmail,Yahoo, and Hotmail, and I am sure there are a lot of people who have one of these, and then I am sure there are a lot of people who have a couple,I myself have an AOL email address which is my main email, that I try to check everyday or every other day,and I have noticed that there are times where I will get a bunch of spam in my spam folder even though now I only get around ten or less which makes me happy, and for a while I did not check it,and it got cluttered with spam mail for all kinds of sites,so now I make sure I keep my email under control which makes me happy, and makes things easier, have a great day, good luck with your life, and all of your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting.

I know what you mean some people like to send you everything no matter what it is ,and they send you copies of everything, and that is cool that you will get about twenty in your spam folder one day a week, and that is cool that you delete them, because spam is almost always junk lol, have a great day, good luck with your life, and all of your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting.

You're right, it seems the worst thing to do is follow a link to have your email account removed from a mailing list. I would say I get around 20% of SPAM mail, that is, mail received that I did not sign up for. On top of this is an additional 75% of junk mail, that is mail from sites which I know I have accepted emails from. Usually a SPAM filter helps out so it's easy for me to delete unwanted email, but it is becoming a major problem for EMAIL providers because it's using bandwidth which can be costly for them. And some of us that are charged by bandwidth, it becomes a hassle wasting your time deleting that garbage.

Thanks for responding. It is also frustrating to sit there hour after hour deleting emails and deleting emails without even reading them. Obviously they do get some people to both respond to them and to buy or they wouldn't do it in such massive fashion.

between all of my email boxes I probably get a few hundred to a thousand a day, but I have had most of my email addresses for years, and the SPAM never stops coming. You are either fortunate, you don't give out your email address much, or your box is new. Thanks for responding.

Thanks for responding. I just delete mine too, responding to them is the worst thing that you can do sometimes. So is opting out using their link from the email. Most of the time companies don't sell your email address, just the right to send you a promotional mail so when you respond in any way, they then have your enail address. Then the real fun begins!

That is not bad at all. You must have only one email box and it must also be fairly new to get that little SPAM. Over 80% of the emails in most of my boxes is SPSM. Thanks for responding.

I have been getting more and more. On one email account, only one out of twenty is something I will actually read, most of it having nothing to do with anything I have signed up for and such.

I have a separate spam folder in my email account and I receive hundreds of spam messages every day which get automatically erased once a month by my email provider and although spam is a pain in the proverbial I don’t get bothered buy it too much because only one or two sometimes get through to my inbox and I just create filters for them so considering that I receive up to 130 spams a day I don’t really see them and I certainly wouldn’t open any.

I get a lot too, thankfully I have a gmail account or else I would get a lot more spam than I do. And I can tag the spam that does get into my inbox so that it doesn't keep coming in. I've had my gmail account since back when you HAD to have an invite to get an account. That's about 4 or 5 years that I have had my account. I don't think I will be changing anytime soon, because it is the best for dealing with spam!

I get about 60 to 100 spam e-mails a day in one of my accounts. It doesn't bother me as long as it goes to the spam box. Some always seem to get through to my inbox though. I also have ended up looking through my spam folders to find my actual e-mails at times. I got mine doing app offers on myspace. They don't bother me, but I had no idea I'd end up recieving that much spam mail. I'd close the account, but all of my fin. aide and college grant info I've ever applied for goes into that e-mail account.

I've got 95 spam in my email today. And it continues to grow each day. And i'm really tired of deleting them because I keep on receiving spam in my email.

Spam is not that much of a issue at all for me really. Why do you need 14 separate email addresses? It sounds like a big amount and a lot of effort to keep up with. What email provider are you using? As it sounds like they do not do much of a good job at preventing the junk mail that you are receiving. I use GMail and I do not really get that much spam, even if I do it goes straight into the spam folder. Which leaves you with not much effort to delete it. You have to be careful who you give you details to, do not leave your address on message boards, as like you said it will be harvested.

In my case, it is about 10% of the mails those I receive in my inbox! Before the spam mails are automatically deleted, I keep a watch over them to find if any thing useful among them. But most of the spam mails are deleted by me regularly. Only the useful ones are moved to the inbox. Thanks for this nice posting and have a good day!

Fourteen different emails? How do you keep up with all that? I figured out, on the spam, if i simply mark it as spam, then usually it does not show up in my email box anymore.

I have quite a few accounts, both for my business website and webmail accounts for programs like myLot. Overall, I would say I get about 300 spam emails a day. It doesn't really bother me because 95% of it is filtered into spam folders that are immediately emptied. - Derek
