Whenever you use internet, the virus will come in one of the ways: 1. Reading a spam or unknown mail which may consists of macro code or virus code embedded inside it. 2. Even your attachments with your mail can cause virus mainly. 3. Browse through the websites which has execution thread running whenever you enter the websites.(Mainly Trojans) 4. Unknown files downloaded from the websites may contain virus. 5. Sometimes, software can also contains virus attached with it and so on..

There is a reason why we need a firewall if we are connected to a network or the Internet. Malware can enter the system even if do not do anything. Fortunately for nowthe majority of hackers could not be bothered to spend time and effort to do it. The procedure involves pinging an IP address at random or otherwise. If the ping is returned it means the computer at the other end is active. The next step depends on the expertise of the hacker, and the tools available to him/her. For example a probe may be sent to see system vulnerabilites. Another method is brute force, attempting to make a connection and make the target computer as a slave. One fairly common method is to send an 'update'. Last week I received an update notification suposedly from Adobe. Actually it was from Shanghai. Autoupdates without user intervention is even worse. If you have not done so get a firewall. I prefer CIS because it gives further options to the user compared to say ZoneAlarm. This feature is hated by some people. all the best in your Internet defence, rosdimy
