Have you ever tasted stale food by mistake?

Some times it so happens that we might taste stale food by mistake taking it to be good. It will be for various reasons. Sometimes food becomes stale due to over exposure to heat, or due to lot of time being passed out after preparation etc.

Sometimes it's hard to figure out what is stale, but usually what I know atleast I call stale is things that are visibly stale. However, for things like meats that haven't necessarily changed color or anything, but are bad in smell we usually just say it's gone bad. I think I've eaten meats before that had gone bad but that I hadn't realized just because the food had been cooked and didn't give off any bad aroma.

Before, because I put food inside my mouth without smelling or looking at food very well if there's something unusual with it. But now I'm more of looking at expiration dates so even before bringing food in our house, I already know that these should be eaten first because it will expire on these dates while these could be stored until these date etc. I also tend to smell the food even it came from the freezer to make sure that its still worth eating.

I tasted stale food. I just spit it out and throw the food away since it is no good.

Unfortunately we have done this a number of times with the chips in our pantry. For some reason our tortilla chips go stale quickly and they end up tasting (and smelling) like paint. If we don't remember to sniff inside the bag first, we end up with a really unpleasant surprise!
