okay, so her she is... our newest addition, an 11 month old great dane female we just adopted... she is a little on the thin side, but we are working on that!! She is very sweet and big, but she still has a lot of puppy in her still and that comes along with a mischevious streak... she is also a bed hog and a couch hog!!! What do you think of her? Does anyone have any experiences with Great Danes?

lol, yeah girly I don't know if I could pick a favorite either... they all have some awesome qualities in their own way and they are each very unique... THanks for the comment girly!! YEah she is very sweet so far, I hope everything goes well... like I said she is a little nervous when one of us leaves the room so we have to see how she does when Brad is gone, hopefully she will get used to the routine though!!

Danes are really great dogs- and tend to really bond with their owners. There are a few issues that you should be aware of with danes though- Bloat is a risk with deep chested breeds such as danes. Bloat is basically when the stomach fills with gas and can twist and cut off blood flow- and can be fatal in a matter of hours. To lessen the risk, feed several small meals through the day rather than one large one, avoide excercise at least an hour before and after feeding, and don't let her tank up on water right before/after she's eaten. Danes can also get skin irritations (calluses) on their elbows due to laying down on hard surfaces, so make sure she enjoys the bed and couch lol The calluses aren't a major issue usually, but I've seen it in a lot of Danes who aren't as pampered. Give her a hug for me!! She's adorable!

yeah we had a french mastiff so we were familiar with bloat.... we feed the great dane 2 cups at a time 4 times a day now plus her snacks/bones... she is very underweight but we are going back to weigh her again in 2 weeks so hopefully she will have made plenty of progress weight wise by then.... I know my uncle had an outside great dane when I was youner, and I remember his calluses... ours is laying on our couch right now so hopefully she wont get those... thanks so much for your comment and the information!!!
