how do you cook pasta?

hi! i'm italian and ive seen in spain that they cook it in a strange way: with oil in the water and a very small quantity of salt... and a friend of mine (german) eats it with ketchup!! all of these things are very strange for me, but i can understand :) i'm curiose to know how is cooked the pasta in the other countries...
