so my sil's daughter was treated for it today and got her drops. Well they were just here on Tuesday. So my question is how fast does it show up after they've been around someone who has it???? I don't want to miss work over this if I get hit with it & would the germs still be around the house though they haven't been here for a few days??

We weren't itchy that I recall last time but we had some pretty crusty eyes.

Pink eye can be caused by a virus or bacteria so it's hare to tell how long it will take for symptoms to appear. If the child touched her eyes and then touched a surface in your home she could have spread the virus/bacteria so you should clean with disinfectant. If you catch it, it's usually not serious. It usually only causes minor irritation as far as I know.

Yes it's minor irritation, but it's extremely contagious and when it comes to kids, they suggest not sending the child back to school until they've been on medication for 48 hours, which means an adult should also stay out of work that long.

It does take a couple days, but I can't be certain. My kids do tend to get it every year, and they constantly give it back and forth to each other. I think it takes a day or two for it to show up. Last time we had it, I had to put cream into the eye of a 5 month old!
I wouldn't worry too much about the house... but if you are, go buy some lysol and spray it around. Kills 99.9% of germs!
