Where do you let your pet sleep?

My brother just bought a puppy. We named her Pam-pam. She's like the baby in our house right now. She's so cute and very playful. The only problem is, she bites me when she plays around and destroys a lot of things here in our house. We let her sleep in our house for a few days but my mom got really angry with Pam-pam because she just nibbles on a lot of things leaving some bite marks and pees in our house as well. We don't have any choice but to let her sleep outside. I just feel sorry because i know she's used to sleep inside and I sometimes hear her cry. Now we're planning to make her a dog house. How bout you? where do you let your pets sleep? Do you know anything that can make them comfortable? Something they can't nibble.

puppies are naturally mischievous. it is no wonder that your puppy acts that way. it would be good if you can cage him if no one is watching over anytime. there are also some toys which you can provide your puppy. just simply go to the petshop and inquire about toys for dogs and puppies. they can readily offer you a variety where you can choose from. as always, people are the ones who thinks and decides for the pets as to which ones are the good ones enough for the satisfaction of their pets love to play.

True true... I must check out those toys then cause she has already ruined a lot of things here. I just don't like looking at her face when I scold her. She just looks like a little sad teddy bear, only she's a puppy.

For goodness sake, do NOT cage the puppy. Give it away before you do that. I love that you are playing with your pup because they need attention (not locked in a cage and forgotten or ignored) He thinks of you as a pup too so he will do the same to you as a brother or sister...toys are a must. Don't buy toys from the pet shop as they charge extortionate prices. A favourite toy would be a long piece of rope, doubled and a knot tied a little way down on each end. Your dog will fetch it, play tug of war with you and happily run around flinging the rope toy around. Start with a piece of rope about 1.5metres. Scold him by saying "No" in a firm tone when he tries to bite. He will soon learn. And put him outside after meals and after he has a drink or wakes up. He will go to the toilet then...they actually prefer to go outside. You have to train your pup so he knows what to do. He doesn't know unless you show him.

Moochie sleeps with me in my room. He sleeps on the floor though on a floor mat just for him. Sometimes he would sleep in my mom's room. Moochie is like Pam-Pam too when he was just a puppy. I think he outgrown this habit then give value to things. I think you should be stricter in a sense that you should let her know that you are mad and you don't like what she is doing.

For a puppy I have heard of people have them sleep in a box with a clock. The ticking sound helps them sleep. Plus you can give them a stuff animal to nibble on all night. My dog is a Shih Tzu and he is now 11 years old and sleeps in my bedroom on his own bed.

Ticking of the clock makes them sleep? I never heard of that. I might try that tonight. Thanks for sharing :)

puppies are really very playful and yours is probably going through a stage called "teething". It's when puppies are biting/nibbling on a lot of stuff. Maybe you can give her a chew toy or something. I let our dogs sleep on our bed if they're clean. They used to bite when they're feeling playful, but they've grown out of it.

Oh yes! I've heard of that =) You're right. I think Pam-Pam is in that stage =) I just bought a chew toy for her. Thanks! =)

May I recommend that you get a book on dog training. Puppies chew and they are not born house broken, you give them toys like hard rubber Kongs or nylabones to chew on. Next you get a crate and crate train the pup. A dog will not pee or poop in it's bed unless they really have to go. When we have pups, we put them outside and tell them to 'Get busy' - command to pee & poop. After they do it, they get praised with a 'Good get busy' a lot of praise and a treat. Into the crate, 4 hours later, we get up and repeat the process. After about 1 week, we go to 5 hours. A dog is never left alone to chew or pee. If it starts to chew on the wrong things, it is given an appropriate toy to chew on and during the day is put out often enough...usually at least once an hour while awake for the first 3 or 4 weeks, Then go to every hour and 1/2, at some point the dog will head to the door to ask to go out, immediately praise them and let them out. Our dogs sleep where they want. When they were younger on the bed in the winter, now they are getting to be too old to make the climb.

When you get a puppy or a dog, you take on a responsibility. If the dog is in the puppy stage which can last 2 years or more, it requires attention and discipline so that you can keep the dog inside if you want. To resolve the problem by casting the dog out is not a good thing. The main caretaker, with some help from family members or roommates has the responsibility to set the tone for the dogs behavior and this has to be done when the dog is first brought into his new house. The words used should be consistent and the application of rules must be consistent. No cheating from household members who want to guide the dog in the wrong direction or sneak a taboo snack to the dog. If you cannot take responsibility for the dog for it's lifetime, do not get one. He is a baby, just like any baby she needs direction and also love. Casting her outside is not the answer, she will turn into a barking, love lost nuisance if she is not nurtured. It does not matter to me where the puppy sleeps, as long as it is trained and loved. A lot of people toss aside pets when they outgow the "cute" stage and I think it is an abomination.

I have two dogs, one I got as a puppy and the other is a street dog that I adopted. The one that was a puppy was a terror, running around and chewing everything, getting in the trash, stealing food off the table and more. Now he is a really good dog, but it sure took a while. When we would leave the house, we would close him up in the bathroom so he couldn't get in much trouble, remember to remove the toilet paper roll! Both of our dogs have a few toys and balls, coconuts, bones that they play with and they both sleep beside the bed on the floor on a rug. If I made them sleep outside they would cry like babies all night.

Puppies tend to be extremely mischevious and you need to teach them not to chew on everything. I have a jack russell terrier (otherwise known as "Jack Rascal Terror" lol). She used to pee all over the house when she just got to our home. My mum would punish her whenever she does that. We bought her a cage where she has to do her business and I would praise her and reward her with a treat whenever she does it right. Soon, she understood and never once has she peed around the house anymore. She also used to chew alot and destroyed almost everything she could get her mouth on. I could give an entire list here but that'll take me the whole day! But chewing is just a phase. It'll go quickly. She chewed from she was 5 months old until she was about 9 months old. We bought her lots of toys to chew on, and i guess she got tired of chewing and stopped. My little one sleeps in my room, on her very own bed. She can only sleep when she's in my room. There was once when I was re-painting the walls in my room and the room was in a mess. So I took her bed to the living room and she couldn't sleep! She sat outside my room (i closed my door) for almost an hour until I let her in. Then she fell asleep almost immediately. She's just like a kid who needs to sleep with her mom. It's so adorable. About your last question, my dog loves to sleep with her favourite toy. Maybe you could try that out with yours.

well some tips on puppys, it its 3 months and below then its crucial to show her the right way because its there learnign stage. when she bites scream your lungs out to show that it hurts. peeing is a little hard to train. but make a designated spot where she supposed to pee and when you notice she will pee put her there. my dogs sleep beside me but they usually leave when im sleeping ( maybe because i move alot or snore^^)

haha, I have a dog and a cat. My dog, pochy, sleeps outside, he can't stand a soft mattress or you'll see it mutilated in the morning. He loves the floor although I'm not sure why, to be safe I let him sleep outside to secure the house and the furniture. My cat pichan, on the other hand sleeps beside us on the bed, air conditioned... what a luxury! That's the reason I laughed. He's so spoiled, he won't eat unless you feed him with your own hands.

Hey Eurydice, I have a German shepherd for last couple of years and she is a lovely dog. We have named her Goofy on the famous Walt Disney cartoon character. Since i live in a small apartment and dont have a personal lawn i have to keep her inside the home and she understand quite a few things 1) no entry in the kitchen\ 2) no jumping on beds 3) no sitting on sofas now to your question well she sleeps in her bed. I have got her a bed and she is happy sleeping in bed and never ever tries to jump on my bed.

No. We do not let dogs sleep inside the house it is for the same reason you stated. I understand why your mom got mad because your puppy pees in your house. It is ok for them to sleep outside provided you give them comfortable place to sleep.

can you imagine that we have at our home four cats and two dogs that sometimes we have to let them sleep with us on the same bed and sometimes they also sleep alone on a king size bed.but i guess it wrong to let them sleep with people because they may affect on their heath the best way s to let them sleep in a cage or out side door

Don't worry, every single dog that has to go sleep outside starts to cry at first maybe for a couple of days, but then he/she gets used to it, BUT make sure it has had its worm tablets before letting him run around outside on the grass, if you dont, he/she could be un-healthy, and would have to go to the doctor reguarly. What i did was, let it in for a couple of days, but let it pee outside, but not on the grass, then let it back in, so he gets used to where he should go toilet, then when he was had its worm injection, i let him/her stay inside for 1 more day then make him/her sleep outside, it will get used to it, you could go buy a dog house for her, but i dont see the need, or at night time, if you dont feel comfortable leaving it outside to sleep, leave it in the laundry, then in the day let it out. hope this helped, by the way when you buy a puppy, it is always a menace. But then it matues as it gets older and wont be like that.

my dogs, and i have 2, both sleep inside the house and inside our room. they're pretty clean, they bathe every other day, brush their teeth, stay in the house and go out only to pee or poop and get cleaned up after. and most of all they are up to date with their shots. theyre pretty spoiled actually.
