Maxtor hard disk crashing my laptop

Anyone is facing the same problem ? When I purchased the Maxtor mini HDD, it worked fine for a month or so. But after that, something happened and whenever I connect the HDD to my laptop, it goes to blue screen.
It is really annoying because I cannot use the disk and I am not able to get back the huge amount of data that I copied.
