The third match of the 2009 IRB Nations Cup first day opposed Uruguay to Romania, the host of this tournament. The match had two totally different halves. The first 40 minutes have been almost entirely controlled by the Romanian, while the team of Uruguay performed much better rugby during the second half. The match ended Uruguay 11 - 17 Romania, the final score being a mirror of the overall balance shown on the pitch.

i hate it when it is like this and one team dominates a whole half of a match, i prefer it when there is loads of action between the two all the way to the end

It remains Romania's only victory since the IRB Nations Cup... I'm afraid Romania's team will reach an historical low - they will fail to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in history.

You are right about Romanian team but all is possible in this life. Nice from them because they try to do something. Maybe next time will be ok.

thanks for the report. I am not very much fan of rugby but I do tend to watch team sports whatever they are playing:)

I just watched Invictus and I recommend it to everyone. It's not necessarily a film on rugby, but it shows how rugby helped build a better South Africa. A very inspiring movie. As of rugby... Romania's going through a very bad period right now. There are little chances of qualifying to the World Cup, a competition we never missed. If we manage to win against Portugal AND Georgia, we will have to play a qualifying tournament against Ukraine, Tunisia (teams we can beat) and, most probably... Uruguay, a very difficult match...

I am not realy up to date with this series, first time I hear of it. Probably because South Africa is not partaking. What is the IRB Nations Cup and which countries participate. Is it played every year, or how often. There is so much sport going at the moment, it is hard to keep track of it all. We just finished the IPL cricket here in SA, now the T20 world cup. We are having the British and Irish Lions rugby team touring our country, the Rugby super 14 series also recently ended, now we have to concentrate on our provincial series, the Currie Cup. Then there is all the other sport in between to cope with. So it is little wonder that I know nothing about the IRB Nations cup. Please inform. Thanks Blessings

The IRB Nations Cup is a secondary annual competition, which I'm mentioning because it has been organized in Romania (my country) for the last three years. It is not a very strong competition - the participating teams don't have to qualify or anything. They just announce their intention of participating. Six teams are playing every year, and the strong teams only send their second representative (the "A" team - only a few players of the first team and many of the usual reserve players), like France, Scotland and Italy did this year. It is a good competition for the strong teams to test some players for the future and for the small teams to play against better adversaries. This year, the teams are France A, Scotland A, Italy A, Uruguay, Russia and Romania. There are three matches for each team, and the best placed team (considering the points and the score) gets the trophy. South Africa did participate in the past. They won the trophy last year (and if I'm not mistaking the year before that too), but with the Emerging Springboks team, not the first team.

Thank you very much for that information. I did not even know we participated last year or the year before. Like I said, we have so much of sport, especialy this time every year, that we don't get round to following everything. Best wishes for your team. Blessings
