Why does the nurse or gynecologist leave when you are undressing

I have wondered about this for sometime so I guess I should ask. The Gyn always said to undress, and she will be right back. I have a hard time understanding why. They are seeing the most intimate part of my body so why is it necessary to them to leave while I undress.

I guess it is just to keep you from feeling uncomfortable. Even though they will be seeing you "down there", they will just be lifting up the gown and looking down there while you are laying looking at the ceiling. but it would be pretty uncomfortable if while you are taking your clothes off she is standing there watching you waiting for you to get them off and then watching you put them back on.

I would not want to start undressing in front of the doctor regardless if they are going to see the most intimate part of my body. I would feel uncomfortable getting undress in front of them.

The Dr, or nurse, leaves because they are extremely busy with their patient load and are multi-tasking. While you are getting into your gown, the nurse is either working on paperwork, setting up for the next proceedure, getting another patients history, or taking their vital signs or such. If we waited around while a patient was changing, we would waste a whole lot of valuable time. There are often 4 or more patient rooms, each with a patient in it, that is in some stage of those proceedures I mentioned. Besides all that, some people take forever to change, and it also allows a patient to have privacy and maintain their dignity. When the gyne is actually examining you, they always have a sheet over the rest of your body so that only the area being examined is exposed, this is also to preserve dignity, and it would be most unprofessional to do otherwise.

It is bad enough that they have to look at you at all without clothing, why would you want them to hang around in the room while you are undressing?
