Instrument Practice Time

I'm a guitar player and have been honing my skills at the instrument for over five years. I used to practice a lot more towards the beginning, between 2-5 hours a day. I generally don't practice as much now although I tend to practice somewhere between 5 and 10 hours a week. How often/ long do you practice at your instrument? By practice time I mean working on technical skill, ear training, etc but not writing your own music or just playing something you already know.

I practice whenever I feel like but I listen to a lot of music and it really benefits me because it's fun to learn the songs you enjoy listening to.

I only play my guitar if I have the urge to do so,if ever I wanted to play the guitar, most of the time I listen to some good guitar albums to inspire me to play the instrument,so I don't really have a regular time playing or practicing to play the guitar...but I do hope to have the discipline to provide time to practice, sometimes I'm dreaming of playing as good as Steve Vai or Al DiMeola, well,it's only my dream...happy mylotting mates :-)

Recently I've found myself practicing more, and I dont even have an instument I know how to play at the moment (waiting for a new keyboard from ebay now) , when I was younger I played piano and violin and rarely practiced technical skills, the piano being to heavy and costly to transport got lost in a move and I lost intrest in the violin since I was never really that proficient at it. As i said in the begining, recently I've been slowly geting back into listening closer to notes being played and watching technique (forgive my misspeeling). A great friend just sent me a korg electribe mx and I've been playing with that, and now I'm waiting for a keyboard, as it stands right now, before the delivery guy even drops it off at the door I'm confident I can play a few things on it. Once is gets here I'm thinking I'll be practicing on it quite a bit while I get my bearings back and then like you I'll eventualy drop back to 5-10 hours a week. I'm going to put a website up in the next few months for my music and also sign up with a few sites that cater to us independents to get my music heard and out there.

I usually practice piano for about one hour daily, if I have some extra time maybe one and a half hours, I enjoy playing the piano so I have no trouble doing this.
