filipina here so i eat rice. about 2 times a day, normally, but if i am really hungry i cook a lot so i'd have left over rice for snacks (which would actually be meals). i think some rice are fortified with vitamins so they are in a way good for you. yes, rice allows us to gain a lot of weight but i think it is just the same as bread. i mean 1/2 cup of rice (which is the recommended serving) is 225 calories already. and most rice eaters think that 1 cup is dieting already. likewise, to those who have bread as their staple food two loaves of bread can amount to 300 calories (if the loaf is an enriched bread)and that doesn't include the ones they take that bread with. anything we don't know the basic thing about is not good. no offense but food and weight should entail calorie know-how.

You meant to say that if we eat 1 and one half of rice just daily once then it's considered a diet already. that's good maybe i should tell my friend because he sometimes over eat his rice too many times and no wonder he never lost a tummy. Rice is good but too much can be bad for your weight.

that's 2 1/2 cups for one's daily carbohydrate requirements. about 5 1/2 cup servings. you have to lower that if one eats bread since that is also a carb. one slice of loaf is already one serving. substitute fruits which is about 2-3 servings in the food pyramid.

we as indians eat rice daily twice. our stomach don;t fill ,if we can;t eat rice any day.generally we take rice in a plain way with some non veg or veg curries. or we will take rice in different forms like fried rice ,biryani's or even in deserts we use rice. i will take one cup rice and add 2 cups water to it and will cook for 12 -15 minutes. i can cook rice in pressure cooker, electric rice cooker or even in microwave. we will take raw white rice ,not brown rice or boiled rice. white rice is polished and we will take it . for fried rices ,we take long grain rices (called basmathi rice) which will be seperately available in my country. if we over eat we can gain weight .so we should eat it in limited quantity. some people's body metabolism rate is high,so they will gain weight more, when they eat rice. see below matter on rice in the link http://www.sunrice.com.au/education/rice-and-good-health : Eating carbohydrate-rich rice means having more energy. Rice with a low Glycaemic Index (GI), breaks down slowly in your body, releasing glucose gradually into the bloodstream. Rice is a completely satisfying food; it reduces 'between-meal' hunger pangs and gives you more energy during the day. Rice is an excellent food to include in a balanced diet. Being low in fat, rice is suitable to eat for people watching their weight. It is also cholesterol free, and contains only small amounts of salt. Some people are unable to tolerate the proteins found in wheat, barley, rye, oats and triticale. These people can feel unwell after eating these foods, and a few can get very sick. All rice is gluten free, making it the essential choice for people with dietary requirements. Rice is an excellent source of fuel for our body. It is easily digested and so the energy it supplies becomes quickly available to our working muscles, brain and body organs, like the heart and liver. The fuel that rice provides is used for physical activity, brain performance, bodily functions and everyday growth and repair. A half-cup serve (80g) of cooked white rice typically provides about 5% of the daily energy needs for an average adult. The same serve size of cooked brown rice typically provides about 6% of an average adult’s daily energy needs. Rice fits well with the dietary recommendations for a balanced diet. The energy (kilojoules/calories) it provides is accompanied by nutrients such as protein, vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre, making every mouthful count. Carbohydrate: Around 85% of the energy (kilojoules/calories) that rice supplies comes from carbohydrate. Carbohydrate powers the body and helps to keep us moving. It is stored in our muscles and liver and released when we need it. Nutrition experts recommend at least half the kilojoules/calories in a healthy diet should come from carbohydrates which are provided by foods such as rice. Protein: This may surprise you but rice is not all carbs! After carbohydrate, protein is the second most abundant constituent of rice. In fact, when compared to that of other grains, rice protein is considered one of the highest quality proteins. It has all eight of the essential amino acids, which are building blocks responsible for making strong muscles. Other Nutritional Pluses of Rice: • Gluten free and the most non-allergenic of all grains • Free from preservatives • Free from additives – like artificial colours and flavours Ricegrowers

wowaweeee!! This is probably the most important and informative response about Rice. certainly, this gives me a lot more reason to stay eating rice as long as i lived. i guess not eating rice literally makes you weak and non-functional for the moment. am glad you made this comment ank_47, it might give others a chance to have change of thought and eat rice too regularly. .

Rice is our main food in China. We eat rice every day. In fact, I eat it for lunch and dinner. In the morning, I usually have some noodles, or one or two eggs with a cup of milk for breakfast. I did not know that there is a Rice Day. Now I am glad to know it. Happy Rice Day to you though my response is belated. Take care, Mikaela.

I'm not a huge fan of rice, but it's always way too dry. I like to mix gravy with it to soften it up a little. I know someone that mixes milk, butter and sugar with it. I think that is DISGUSTING! Haha. Even worse is when people put raisins in it. Uggg. I do like to crumble baked fish or chicken into rice. Better that way as well. I'm a very picky eater when it comes to how I will eat my rice.

Ewwww Milk,Butter and Sugar in Rice? you're kidding right? who would add such imcompatible ingredients? I agree it is disgusting. it should just add viands instead of sweets, and most specially not Raisins, unless it's fried rice. am kinda picky too sometimes...have a nice day

Some have actually try not to eat rice. and for the next few weeks , they became weaker and prefer to eat bread or other food more than they used too. I also don't see myself not eating rice, it's hard really.

I would think every single one of us here have ever eaten rice. Cooking is exceptional as some of us do not cook or do not need to cook. I am one of those who do not cook. However, I eat rice cooked by others. I try to have one serving a day if not none. I do not like rice.

Yup, I do eat rice everyday. At least twice a day. I'm quite overweight, yet I can't give up on any food whatsoever. I don't cook rice myself, but I can very well do it. It's pretty simple compared to other stuff. The pressure cooker method is easy; the microwave is easier. I love rice with the 'dal' and curries that are the common Indian delicacies. Slurp! A Rice day to you too! :-)

That's the disadvantage of eating rice, if you eat too much ith out any for of dieting. it can lead you for gaining pounds and if you don't slow down, you would certainly become fat in no time. just remember to eat one and one half a day.

When I was young, I ate rice three times everyday. Now I eat rice twice everyday, and they are lunch and dinner. The breakfast is very simple, a piece of bread,or steamed stuffed-bun,or Chinese cruller is ok.

Rice also our Primary food here.some people can survive by simply eating rice alone if they can't afford any other viands or dishes.or maybe the difference is in the tradition, or what people wanted more.

Hi Mika! Rice is our staple dite and we take it once in a day i.e. we cook rice with dinner. Our dinner consists of pulses and vegetables/curd and we cook rice along with that. We take bread (home cooked bread called 'Chapatis' in our dinner, besides rice. I've seen some people take rice with anybread and they enjoy their meal with rice and curries.

Filipinos eat rice three times a day. That's our primary food already. Regarading how you cooked rice well we cooked in rice cooker. The amount of rice is the same as the water so if you put 3 cups of rice you have to put 3 cups of water as well. They said that too much rice you ate will result to gain weight, but i dont think its right because i am fit and dont have any problem regarding gain weight. Anyway rice is best eat together with good viand and we filipinos have different viand to choose and satisfy our food in a day .. thanks for open up this discussion.

I am a Filipina so I know too, hahahaha. So, regarding your method of cooking it it's like one is to one right; one cup of water one rice. I agree that eating too much can gain you so much weight and probably not good for some one who wanted to loose weight.

We eat rice once or sometimes twice a week.We have rice with curry once a week and some times we will do a stir fry in that same week so we have rice with the stir fry as well.I find that you do not have to eat much rice with anything as it soon fills you up.I have also found that we do put on weight on alot more if you eat alot of rice.

I think it's the carbohydrates that fill you up,coz pasta also makes you feel full quickly. It could also be the carbohydrates that make you put on weight

well yeah, dog food are expensive here you know, and we dont really have that much money for that especially now. our labrador retriever, eats rice all the time and he's really big. we had them on dog food before but we have it mixed with rice and some of the dish we are having... now that we are really in a financial crisis, what we gave our dogs are rice only, of course with flavor, what ever dish we are having. what we eat is what they eat also...

I eat rice everyday and since mom is busy these days, i cook it everyday as well. Its our daily food. That's what we eat in the morning and evening. Sometimes i get tired of rice and skip dinner, but in the morning; want it or not, i have to eat.
