Is revenge generally a bad thing?

I've read a book about the art of revenge. It says that it's not really bad if people would resort to revenge after a painful experience was done to them. It's just a social dilemma and part of protecting oneself- a natural thing for humans.

I have to admit that I've sought (& gotten) revenge before & I'll probably do it again. I also believe in Karma & what comes around, goes around. But sometimes the universe just needs a little help! If you've really wronged me, especially if you damaged my property or cost me money, then I'm going to find a way to make you feel the same hurt. For example, the man across the street tried to run over a neighborhood cat in the street, then stood outside one day yelling when I car went by & my dog had gotten loose saying that he wished my dog would get hit. I don't understand either of these things from him because he has a dog & cat both. Well, Mr. Big Mouth is running a business illegally out of his house & makes one heck of a racket over there. More than one neighbor has said something to me about all the noise coming from over there. So it is **possible** that my husband made a visit to the city & filed a complaint.

Revenge has its consequences. Especially if you damage someones personal property. Not only could you get arrested, if caught and seen by witnesses, you're also going to have to pay for the repairs. And sometimes the cost to fix it is more than what it's worth. I say take the high road and let it go.

I agree that it is natural to want revenge on someone who has hurt you. I also agree with deewinc that for the one who inflicted the pain to see you happy or ok after the pain is more detrimental than anything you could probably do in return to him/her. I also completely beleive in karma and know that it may not happen today but what you do unto others will come back on you ten fold.
