Requiring others to stop developing nuclear weapons

Iran is well known of developing nuclear warheads for some time already and North Korea has joined the party lately (OK, it has started long ago but only admit it is developing nuclear for military purpose recently). We also know that there are quite many nations int the world that are capable of making nuclear warheads. It is well known how disastrous nuclear war can be and therefore the US has tried very hard to ask any nations in the world to stop developing nuclear. While I strongly agree that these deadly weapons be wiped off from the world, I have just one simple question: Which nation in the world nowadays has the most nuclear military power? I mean if there is a nation that is going to bomb the world with nuclear bombs that can wipe the Earth of living things, which nation it would be?

Currently, the largest estimated nuclear stockpile is Russia, with 4,840 active weapons. Then USA with 2,700, France with 300, China 180, UK with 160, India & Pakistan both with 60, North Korea with less than 10. It has been said that Israel may have as many as 80. South Africa used to have some, but dismantled them voluntarily. Several former Soviet republics used to have them also, but have (supposedly) destroyed them all. These are only public estimates, the actual totals could be higher or lower. Of course, the total number of weapons doesn't take into consideration the types of weapons. All the UK's weapons are submarine launched IBM with MIRV. The bigger nuclear nations have a greater variety of weapons.

As soon as another nation becomes nuclear, that effectively makes them immune to invasion. The US or anyone else is hardly likely to invade a nuclear nation. Even one small nuke will gut a city. Even the relatively small numbers of nukes owned by India or Pakistan will gut most countries.

So are you saying that US is trying so hard to make other nations to abandon their nuclear plan so that she can invade them at its own wish later?

Thanks for your reply. It is really frightening to learn that there are thousands of nukes that can be launched at no time. It is also so strange to know that when those nations are having so many nukes that they are ordering others to abandon any plans to get one.

Until now the M.A.D.(mutually assured destruction) strategy seems to have been working, the nuclear deterrent is sometimes the only way to avoid a bloody war. No nation will ever use such weapons because they know that the outcome would be their total annihilation. Evidently north korea and iran know this well and since they have been threatened by the previous u.s. administration putting them in the axis of evil, they are just trying to avoid that. Let's just hope that their leaders are rational people who will follow this rational course of action and not fanatics who will act despite the obvious consequencies. But i believe that altough the leaders of those countries are dictators and that they don'r respect human rights i believe anyway that they are really smart people, even if in an evil way.

Thanks for your reply. What is the sensible action if you are the leader of North Korea? I mean you know that the States hate you so much and neither do you want to make friends with them. So, how are you going to protect your country from the States when you know for sure that there are just so many nukes in the States? It is pretty obvious to me that seeing how others posses nuke and I don't is pretty a worrying thing and to protect my own country, I will say let's all have some nukes so I will be afraid of you firing one on me and vice versa.

exactly, some times a cold war is the only way of avoiding a real war with real deaths and real devastation.

Fasai, this is one of those issues that's kept under wraps as much as possible by the nations that have nukes. I don't thin we know the truth about any of them. It really doesn't matter, though. If one goes off, they're all set to go off, and we're all gone, no matter who does what.

Thanks for your reply. In fact it is a long feared thing that if there is an accident that a nuke is off that world war 3 will be started which is a deadly nuclear war where I would say most people will die. So, there is a long talk of eliminating nuclear weapons altogether but as far as I know, the number of nukes out there still can destroy Earth tens of times.

The fewer countries that have nuclear capability, the fewer inchy trigger fingers we all have out there. Then there is nuclear capability and real nuclear capability. Just how hot a bomb can you make???? The big countries have the MASSIVE capabilities but at one time we were infants at it too. Big countries need to check world massive nuclear capabilities. Start when countries are first starting. If it is ignored, one day the emtire planet will have a mess on their hands.

Thanks for your reply. I think that unless all nukes are eliminated from Earth or otherwise it is still only a mess. It simply surprises me whenever I remember that how many nukes those countries have when they are accusing others of trying to make one.

it is now obvious that nuclear weapon and nuclear war will likely put an end to the existence of mankind on this planet, the countries that are presently building nuclear war are growing each passing day and the doom of mankind is just some years to come, except God himself find a situation to this, we will all just get wiped out sometimes

Thanks for your reply. I don't know but honestly I don't think any nation will risk setting off a nuke so lightly. The consequence of doing so is simply nothing a nation can handle.
