I can no longer leave the house

in one go. Before I leavein the mornings, I make numerous trips back and fro to the car. the car. Each time clutching something that I toss in the car. Like car keys. Even the twins are used to me saying goodbye at least four or five times before I actually leave. They try to assist, by picking up my phone and bag and following me as I am looking for them as I know that I had put them down somewhere. No, it is not all their fault. In fact, I have turned into my mother. My son was laughing this morning whilst putting the car key into the car before I put it down en route out of the house and lost it again. He says that he is going to make me a check list so that I can leave just once as it were. I used to pick up my bag and leave but those days seem a long time ago. Does anyone else have a problem in leaving the house to go to work? Or just going somewhere else?

I don't drive. Sometimes my fiance will forget his driving glasses so one of us has to go back inside and get them. Other times it's something we need to take with us. If we do forget something it's either right as we get in the truck, or car, or when we are too far away from the house to go back. Hey! Atleast you don't ever have to come back to get something! If we're just going down the road then he doesn't worry about the glasses if he forgets them.

I think that stress has a lot to do with people forgetting things, of any age.

ROTFL! Oh Cynthiann: Don't feel bad as I prepare to leave the house each and every time, whether its morning or anytime of the day; In my head I do my checklist; are you ready? Bra on .......... "check" Teeth in ( lower denture ) which I hate... "check" this is the one I forget the most! I'd list a few others but that's enough of what I go through... LOL!!

Hey Jan - am glad that I am not the only one with this problem. Isn't it hell? I cna remmber when I would shower, dress, drink coffee and eat toast and get out of the house in 30 minutes. No longer can I do this. and then, I do the same thing when I leave work and my car is parked right outside my office. Here I go, back and fro! The Security guards watch in amazement and know better to interrupt me as I will forget the vital thing that I wqas doing!

That is funny. I sometimes have a problem leaving but it's just usually when I've got or had my cell phone on charge and I wind up going back to the house...yes, I've already left and have to drive back to the house and get my cell phone. Or something else that I don't usually take with me that I was suppose to at one time or another. Now, you might be asking why would I go back for my cell phone? It's like this, I am disabled and while I hope I never break down it may still happen and I can not get out to do any walking. I live out in the country so I go for miles before there is anything, some times even another car. I need the phone in case I break down or if I have a medical emergency and have to call someone to help me. Also if someone else is at the house I may forget something that I needed or they wanted and have to call to see what it is or if they have thought of anything else I need to do or that they might want me to do. It's just too far to make more than one trip into town a day or even a couple of times a week. Unless I have to that is.

Yes, it probably would. lol I take everything that I'm going to take with me and put it all in one place like the dining room table as it is there before walking out the door. That helps most times. The only thing is my teeth....they are always in the bathroom when I'm not wearing them. I forget them if I am in a hurry. I need new ones as these don't fit right anymore and they hurt me, that's why I don't wear them unless I have to.

I do hope that you can get some new ones soon that do not hurt. I will try to pout my stuff in one place and beg the twins not to touch it!

Now I have 2 phones. The BB and my usual cell for work. Son calls and says that I left the second phone at home. I need the phone for my job as I am on call 24/7 . anway, I have not gone back for it and have no intention of doing so. Maybe a check list might work

Hi Cynthiann, I don't think I have to go back as many times as you do but the other morning I was due to go out straight from work and my sons friends mum was picking him up from school and having him overnight for me so there I was all organised all his stuff packed ready to go including clothes for the following morning got all the way to the school and realised I had forgotten that days packed lunch, silly me and had to go back and collect to give to him, the lollipop lady laughed as she is used to this with me in the mornings. I really do try not to make too much of a habit of it though LOL. It always seems to be on a day when I am starting early too! Huggles. Ellie :D

Isn't it awful? We think that we have everything and then find out we don't. I used to get irritated at my mother too

it is sometimes... we live in a subdivision and the gate is quite far from our house, and then when me and my kids are almost halfway to the gate, i'd say i forget something... and ask one of them to go back to the house and get it, and of course, they get annoyed with me... lol... or sometimes when we are at the car and almost at the gate and id say i forgot something... well you know what happens, we have to go back...

Oh my I know exactly what you mean and I think it's so cute that you children actually help you out..lol..Being a mom really isn't easy; there is so much to remember, so many things to do, dinner to prepare, laundry to wash, errands to run, doctor appointments, schook appointments... it really gets overwhelming sometimes and it sounds like you really need a vacation, like I do. Sometimes I'm so overwhelmed with trying to keep up with my stuff and at times I just shut down and come here on mylot just to try to relax after a hard day like today. Try to take it easy because i'm pretty sure you're just overwhelmed with so many responsiblities. Take Care!

Sorry for the misrepresentation - they are my grnad twins not my twins. I am looking after them until my DIL comesd home in July. I think it is stress and age to be honest. But I agree with you - life can get overwhelming.

yep it used to happen to me all the time, now less and less because if I know I am going out I try to have every thing I need in the same place in advance so I don't have to rush around looking for things, I have to do it because my memory is very bad and I can't trust myself anymore.

Woohoo!!! I'm not the only one!!!! (Imagine someone doing the Happy dance, mentally doing cartwheels) I get so angry having to return to the house over and over again because I've yet again forgotten something!! I know now it's my ADD, but it still aggravates me beyond belief. I can put something RIGHT BY THE DOOR and will still forget why, move it out of my way and leave without it!! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!! All my flippin' life!! Keys are the worst, without a doubt.

Oh, please just don't get me started about keys! Locksmiths can take expensivce vacations on how many keys they cut for me in a year. I shiver just hearing the word 'key'.

I know exactly what you mean. I think it has something to do with having kids. I constantly get my kids and myself in the car, get ready to drive out of the driveway and have to go back into the house for something. Sometimes it takes me three trips back into the house to get something before we're finally on the road.

hi, Being not preopared is quite a common thing and my dad many a times to his office would return mid way, sometimes he would forgot his briefcase, some times he would forget his wallet or even on a pretax of not saying good bye to mom. I think the person who dont have a check list and who have lots of work have this problem more than the say students or a girl who is going for a movie with friends. so if you are a busy mom then it is very natural thing to happen.

Oh that is really normal to happen sometimes before you leave house in morning as we have many thoughts in our mind about our work, the lunch, the kids getting back home, the husband, the dinner and all stuffs.especially if you are a mother or wife then our responsibilities just climb a peak sometimes and then we cannot keep everything in our mind up to date.Yes it happens many times and i think it is all normal.

I get ready to leave the house every morning and 1st thing i do is check the stove . Like 4 times to make sure the stove is off , then i grab my keys off the hook . Then i go down the stairs and forget if i lock the door so I go back up to the house check the stove agian and check again to make sure my house is locked. I usually repeat this at least 3 times..i am completely obseesed . Also before i go to bed at night I make sure my license and debit card are in my purse and check them at least 4 times before I go to sleep . I understand why i check my walet ...i am only 24 years old and have already had my identiy stolen , but i have never had a fire so i dont know why i check the stove so often , proablly cause my mom didnt let us use the stove when she was not home while I was young because she was afriad there would be a fire. I also undertand why I obsessed with making sure the door is locked. It is just somthimg I have always done

These are really not bad obsessions - it means that you are just a little over anxious and this, as you rightly say, was probably because of your mother's attitude. We learn so much from our parents. You are probably a little stressed to. don't worry about it. These are good habits
