Do you do your own car maintenance? Who does the work?

Do you do your own car maintenance? If you don't who does the work? Do you change your own oil? Check your fluids? Who do you trust to look over your vehicle? I was fortunate that I married someone who can maintain a vehicle. Before I got married I learned how to change my own oil. I had a problem with someone not tightening my oil plug. That could have been an extremely costly problem as it was it only cost me about $5 in oil. Back then the oil was $1 a quart. LOL So who does your vehicle's maintenance?

It is me. Hubby is notorious for not checking fluids until it is too late. I was my daddy's little girl and he taught me about cars so it has fallen on me to do the maintenance. I have also become quite handy at duct taping things together too. I can change a fan belt, change a flat tire, check the oil and water. Unfreeze a propane converter and clear the hoses. One day when I am rich I will never look under the hood of a car again!

I wish us rich really soon. Aren't men funny even if they can do it they don't want to. I won't let my husband do construction around the house. The last time he did we had the cleanest birds in the neighborhood from a busted pipe. LOL

Well, I used to back when I had a Honda. Even used to do my honey's Festiva but now I have an old BMW and I have someone who keeps it up for me. He is really good about showing me stuff so I know what to look for but I don't even have tools to do anything at the moment.

The BMW parts must be expensive. I don't envy you any. LOL We had a BMW and the first part we had to buy for it I told my husband that car had to go. He works on them but I swear the part was more than twice an "american" car.

Actually, my parts have not been at all expensive. I bought the car used from a thrift store and I hesitated to do so because I was afraid of the mainenance but I have made out better than most people I know who have had to get dealer parts and pay astronomical labor costs. I took the car in to a shop to have the power steering hoses and clamps changed. They told me I needed to replace an entire system among other work that would cost over $1,200. My guy replaced the hose and clamps and voila, no more leak for over a year now. I don't think the job could have cost much more than the man's time. The only issue for me is having someone who knows what they are doing who can help me maintain the car. When I go someplace with that car I get one of two reactions: dollar signs in the eyes or deep fear and intimidation. Neither of which work for me. If you had seen how easy it was to replace my radiator the other day you would want to harm someone in those over priced repair shops.
