Do people really get viruses with limewire.com?

I have heard that people have gotten viruses with limewire but I have never had a problem even though I have downloaded thousands of files from there. What do you think it is that causes some people to get countless viruses from limewire and others not problems at all. Is it because some people aren't careful about what they are downloading or dumb luck?

It's true, you can get viruses that way. Not necessarily from someone else's computer, either! Many recording companies are purposely infecting their music with viruses in order to infect those downloading without paying. I read a story about that a few months ago.

Two wrongs don't make a right, that's true. But people who steal music are such a drain on those companies that I guess they felt they had to do something--I find their tactics reprehensible. But people who steal the music are stealing not only the artists' creativity but the artists' kids' college educations among other things. I have little sympathy for the record companies (who need to get a clue about marketing and how people want their music) or the people who steal music. And it's become a very childish battle.

That's very interesting. I hadn't heard about that before. I will have to look it up and see what I can find on it. But doesn't that make them just as bad as though who download the music to start with? You know what they say about 2 wrongs?

A lot of people do not have anti-virus software on their computers, making it easy for them to download infected files. I use limewire almost every day and I have never gotten a virus from limewire. I use Norton Anti-Virus software, and it catches all infected files before they even finish downloading.

Thank you for your response. I have no anti virus on any of my computers. I never have kept it on them because they are more of a pain than they are worth, for me anyway. I can usually easily fix any small problems that occur anyway. But I have never had anything happen because of limewire.

Viruses are possible when people are careless (or even malicious) and when you don't have protections in place on your computer. You should always be careful when downloading files.

Yes, I do understand that you should be very careful, but I seriously have never had a problem. Maybe because I am more careful about what I put on my computer. I have never had a problem that I couldn't fix and most of the problems that I do get come in the form of emails. That doesn't even happen often.

When it comes to emails I make it known that I don't do attachments and that the person needs to copy and paste whatever it is in the body of the message if they want me to read it. I really hate it when someone sends an attachment without even an explanation of what it is.
