The heat is on!

Last week there was no rain or even cloud cover and the sun was relentless! Last night at my honey's we realized it was still hot even after 10 PM because the AC kept coming on and we had the thermostat up around 80! I got up early this morning and went to the bathroom and adjusted it by one degree so it would kick on and it was hot then! Fortunately today it wasn't as oppressive as I expected but the sun was giving me a headache at bus duty and I had to go back inside the building. I am still working on my place and hoping to get one of those portable style air conditioners that you can move around within the next month because my computer can not take the heat and keeps shutting itself down. I am usually at work for the hottest parts of the day but now that summer is on it is taking longer for the house to cool off again and I am now forced to look for ways to beat the heat. What do you do to escape the heat?

I keep the windows open in the cooler part of the night and shut them before the sun and humidity pour in the next morning. Lots of fans work well, too. When I do have to use the portable air conditioner, I also use a couple of fans to direct the coolness about the house. If it's very hot, sleeping downstairs instead of up helps. And a basement almost always stays cool. Best wishes, Karen

What kind of portable air conditioner do you use? I have looked at a few online but I honestly don't know the difference between one or another.

What you describe is exactl what I plan to do. My place isn't that big and I will have no trouble cooling the entire apartment with just the one portable unit and I like that the newer models have a window kit so that you don't have to cut a hole in the wall.

I bought mine at Wal Mart. The prices are very reasonable. The BTU's will be a guide as to how big a space an air-conditioner will cool. Anything on line should have that information listed for you. Mine is just for one room, but with a fan or two, I can make my whole apartment comfortable. Last year, the landlord bought a free-standing air conditioner for each apartment. It must be vented out the window, but I will use that this year, as it cools a larger space more easily.

I can at least be grateful for now that temperatures are not that bad. I took a nap yesterday after working at the school and stayed up overnight working on the computer until about 4 without it overheating. Managed to contribute three helium articles.

It rains at times in my neck of the woods which is very good for me and cool especially at night when I go to bed. I have no airconditioning so I just rely on mother nature to cool me off. Cheers!!!

Lucky you! I am usually ok with just the fans but for some reason it seems really hot right now and the computer just can not handle it.
