Foster Children...

Well we are moving to a smaller city where I am from and we have been thinking about fostering or adopting a child. I know my boyfriend is ready for as he has his own kids. I am ready because I feel like I am a good "mom/ role model" when his children and others are around. Our only fear is being rejected.
Both of us have clear criminal records, but he only has partial custody of his children. We are worried that this might be used against us when it comes time to fill out the forms. He does tho pay his child support to the mother of his kids, and takes them during his time. She already lives out of town from where we are now so us moving is no difference.
So we are unsure if they would allow us to foster a child or two even. I don't see why not. But then again we also don't have the highest credit. I had been in collections before for some visas, so I don't know if they require a credit check.
I read up about it but there wasn't to much info on the actual site for the city we are moving to. I know we want to wait a bit still until we get settled into our new work and house.
Do any of my Mylot friends foster in Canada? Do you know if any of this will affect us if we wanted to become foster parents?
Thanks Guys

I think that it is wonderful that you and your boyfriend want to foster a child. I live in Europe but know foster parents are needed in Canada. I have a friend that is a foster carer. She is currently caring for two little girls aged 3 and 1 that are sisters. She is also looking after a baby girl of 4 months old. I think your boyfriend is a good father so that will be looked upon favorably. Many men have children from a past relationship and that is normal. I know foster parents are paid for each child in my home country. Social services would consider the house size and the personalities of the foster parents. I know that if you apply to adopt a child then the application system might be demanding. It would be worth trying. Good luck.
