Diary/Journaling

I have always loved to write down my thoughts for pleasure and also as a way to relieve stress and depression. Unfortunately I am not disciplined enough to write every day or even consistently. I used to write a lot when I was having problems with my ex. It is a good way to vent your frustrations. I have a friend who has been keeping journals since she was very young. I would have liked to do this but did not. Think of the valuable memories and lessons that we can learn from going back and reading what our thoughts were and what life was like when we were younger.

Hi momiecat! I have a journal that I was using to jot down some memories that I wanted to keep remembering but then I got away from doing that after a painful situation and didn't get back to it. I have so many other things that's happened since then that I need to jot down before I forget but I've been so busy with other things that finding the time is like finding a needle in a haystack. lol But hopefully one day I'll get back into it because I want to write a book a biography on my life but it has to be when both of my parents are gone because it would hurt them too much to read the truth..... so I need to get caught up in my journal, don't I? lol

I have written about many painful things in my life too. I have not gone back to reading them much as I don't want to relive those moments. It is good to be able to write them down when we are experiencing them because it helps to clear your head and gives you a better perspective on the situation. I don't think it is necessary to go back and read all the bad stuff later on when the situation has resolved or gotten better. I wish I would have written about my adventures. By the time you reach mid life, you do start to forget things. It is a shame especially if you want to write a biography of your life which I find would be a wonderful thing for people to do. They can see what goals they have accomplished and give further meaning and historical content to their existence, a record of their life that will not be forgotten. I wish my ancestors did this. My genealogical research would have been so much easier and vivid if they had.

see, I've just never figured out that journaling bit - I guess I live so much in my own head, and I really don't like myself that much, that why would I want to "talk to myself"? I KNOW what I think already -
- I'd rather read what other people are thinking about - gotta be more interesting than ME!

Hi Elic, I can't believe your life is boring. Look at how many things you have written about here (17000+) and I doubt that is all fiction. If I remember correctly, you have a cat or cats. In my opinion, life is not boring at all when you have cats. Mine always keep me entertained, especially the young ones. To each's own though. If you like writing fiction that is great too.

I have a journal, I write in it when I want to let off some steam, or gove thoughts on movies, technology or other stuff.
It's great fun...when I actually remember to do it!

I haven't kept a diary for about 14 years now. And I haven't re-read any old ones for even longer. But I still have them. I wouldn't want anyone to read them, but I don't want to get rid of them either. They're who I was.

My whole point exactly! Do not get rid of them. Someday you might want to go back and read them. It is so wonderful that you have kept writing. Like I said in another response, I wish my ancestors had done this as it would have been a great window into their lives and a great historical adventure. Keep it up!

I think you don't have to writ down on your journal every day or consistently, I only write whenever I feel like writing. I used to write a lot too back then when I was having problems with my ex. Like your friend, I've been keeping journals/diaries too since I was very young, like 6 or 7.

Hi autumn, good thoughts. You are correct in that you do not have to write every day. I just wish I had written more when I was younger because now that I am older, I would like to go back and read what I was thinking about at those times. Like I said before, it is a good way to go back and sort of re-live the past or make you feel young again. Thanks for your feedback.

I like writing too but now i don't have time to write.
When i was a little teenager, i was always my journeys in my diarys like conversations with friends, my feelings and such things like that. Now i stopped it because it gets me a little annoyed to write my life because now, it is become boring...
I want to write novels too, i have too many ideas, don't know which to take and don't know how to write it because i don't the right words to write. I have started some mini novels but gets annoyed very soon and i have all stopped them. :x

Hi Sushie, if you used to write when you were younger, I think you could get that feeling and motivation back. Sometimes, rather than writing in paragraphs, I like to make lists of things I want to do or even of my thoughts. You probably cannot make a novel out of a list but it would give you some ideas of where to start. If you have ideas for novels, just write down some thoughts and when you get bored, put that down or go to another subject matter. Then, later on, you can go back to it and start writing again. Sometimes you need to take a rest but then you can always go back to your writings at a later point. We make time in our lives to do what we feel is important to us.
