is it mutually agreeing to not wash dirty linen in public, or is it venting anger at each other by adding more than what actually happened. is it being quite and happy about the good times that you had and being philosophical in the situation that has arisen, or is it any other way which makes you feel better

I think the best way to breakup is to do it in good terms. Its better to talk about the changes in your relationship, your feelings and interests. Clear things up with one another and don't let anything be left unspoken. After the breakup, you can go on separate ways or whatever you decide. Dont make a dish or a scene, it wont be the last impression you wanna make for yourself. When you breakup, leave a good image of you...its gonna make you feel better, too.

The best way for me is just to be honest with each other reason why you are breaking up. It helps the other person to understand the situation and in a way help in improving one self. Talking personally is the best way.
