Now it's summer and watermelons are in abundance we often swim with a water melon to really cool it down and then open it and eat it on the beach. Anyone else tried that?

This looks to be a great idea.. What I usually do is keep it in the fridge for 4 to 5 hours or so.. and then take it out and hav it like a cool drink.. should try this swimming stuff.. some day.. [ Hope my throat will take it (as I am a little allergic to cold drinks !

Hi aravinkdr, where on earth did you undig this old watermelon topic from, one of my first when I was clueless what do do on Mylot. Swimming with a watermelon does not make it any colder that a fridge would and somehow I never have enough room to ever get a watermelon into the fridge in the first place

Well I sympathise with your problem of cold things. I'm the opposite, in summer my freezer is full of bottles of frozen water and I take them out with me into the heat to keep them cold for longer once the ice starts to melt.

I just surfed through all of your discussions out of curiousity.. The list was too large.. I just wanted to see how long it was . about using fridge.. - I chop it into smaller pieces and pack them in ... and end up suffering severe throat pain/infection..! Dr told not to take COLD drinks any more..So no more fridge stuff nowadays

We just brought some home with us today as a friend had a lot from his friend who grows watermelons for export. The trouble is they are so big that once one is cut open there isn't really any room left in the fridge for it to keep it cool as it's packed with fresh salads and veggies we stopped for at the market. I suppose it will just have to be eaten quickly, my son can make short work of one.
