How does one become a thinker?

You know, like in the early days of Renaissance there used to be many thinkers, free thinkers who are now getting credit for a lot of things. How does one become a thinker who is looked upon or is talked about today? I know it's a silly question, but anyways.

Most of the ancient thinkers we know of today either wrote about the things that they have observed or were written about. So I guess if your purpose is to be looked up to or talked about, you have to write and get published. And of course it has to be about something new and provocative. But if the question is merely how to be a thinker, all you have to be is observant and curious, and a nitpicker.

We're all born thinkers. Whether we remain on that path combines curiosity and exploration of ideas.
