Waiting for the doctors office to open

A few weeks ago, I took my dog to the vet and we found out that she has lyme disease. A couple days later I found a tick on me. I've been keeping an eye on the area just to make sure it didn't start to look funny. A few days after the bite, I noticed a bit of redness around it, but I figured that might be normal. Then I noticed a red ring around it, which has now gotten worse. I looked it up on webmd and this may be a sign of Lyme disease in humans. The doctors office opens in a few minutes so I'm going to call and get an appointment. I was also looking at the treatment for this and it's an antibiotic that I've never taken before. I'm allergic to MANY antibiotics, so I'm hoping that this one doesn't cause me any problems. If so, I'm going to be on a lot of different meds for a while to try to get rid of this! Wish me luck!

It's just a bacterial infection you get when a tick that carries the bacteria bites you. Mostly deer ticks carry it. If it goes untreated it can cause nerve damage, but I'm nowhere near that stage!

Whoa, they're all over the place here! They get hit by cars ALL the time. My mom gets a whole family of them in her yard a lot.

Glad to hear you have sorted out your bite and you are on the mend.We would not get those sort of tick bites in England as we only have one Deer park in Seven oaks ,kent. The Deer don't run free here.

I'm glad that you looked it up and make an appointment to see your doctor as I was reading your post I was thinking that you have it too. That is a sign of getting something from the tick. Good luck. I hope you can take the antibiotic.

The doctor doesn't seem to think I have much to worry about. Although I do have "A" sign - the bulls eye thing - I don't have any other sign. There's no fever, joint pain or headaches. Those are the BIG signs. We'll find out for sure next week with the results of the blood work though!

I am allergic to tick and flea bites. Maybe you are allergic to ticks too. That just may be a sign of that for you. I hope it's something simple.

Oh, man! I'm SO SORRY to hear this! Yep, it sure sounds like you have lyme disease. I'll keep my fingers crossed and send you all the positive energy I can that you'll be able to take the antibiotics for it without having a bad reaction! I wrote a discussion about ticks not too long ago. It seems that ticks are exceptionally bad this year, most likely from all the rain we've been getting. But, I've been lucky in that not one tick that I found on me had bitten yet. A few years ago, one had bitten me, on my shoulder. My husband pulled it out, but the head remained under my skin so I went right to the doctor and he removed it and gave me antibiotics, just in case. You usually don't get Lyme disease if the tick has been embedded for less than 24 hours, unless the tick has been disturbed. Then they release whatever chemical it is that gives us Lyme disease. You poor thing! Both you and your dog, both having Lyme disease! Man! What are the odds of that happening? You've (both) got my best wishes for a speedy recovery!

The doctor said I might not have lyme because I have none of the other more serious symptoms. No headache, fever or joint pain. We'll find out next week though when the test results come back.

Oh! Almost forgot... for the future, I was told that taking a teaspoon of vinegar each day keeps ticks from biting. Pickle juice is a good way to get that vinegar, at least a way that makes it taste better! I've been eating a pickle a day since then and not one thing has bitten me since! Not a mosquito, fly, flea or tick or any of the other gazillion biting bugs out there, and we live in the mountains! It's too early to say if this is mere coincidence or if it's actually working but, right now, I'd have to say it's working. Keep that in mind for the future, okay?

Wow! I sure hope not! I thought that the ring around a tick bite was a sure sign of Lyme disease. I'm glad to hear it's not a certain thing and sure hope that you get good news next week! I'll keep my fingers, toes and eyes crossed for you!
