Fear is no more than the lack of knowledge. Fear of the unknown. If you had true understanding of things and outcomes, could you ever be afraid again???

Fear can be caused by anything. Insecurity - doing something for the first time and so there is a lack of confidence Pride - fear of rejection and so reluctant to try Safety reasons - normal concern for personal safety Those are the main 3 reasons I could think of. The problem with fear is one will never know what it could have been unless he/she tries to overcome it but it's all but normal to feel afraid.

As a Christian, fear is the absence of faith. Fear is not from God, but from the devil. God wants us to trust Him and not be afraid. Many of the Psalms were written by the trembling hand of David who lived in fear for many years while on the run from Saul. David's response to fear is in Psalm 56:3, "Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.... I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?" Fear is a natural human reaction to danger. God does not tell us to ignore our fears, but to bring them to Him.

The main problem for fear is attachment to something. If you love, value and want something very dearly then the fear sets in! If there is detachment, you want nothing then you become fearless as you have nothing to lose!
