So why was Letterman let off the hook while Don Imus was fired? Does the media have anything to do with this? Do liberals get preferential treatment and conservatives get hammered by the press?

Not on Fox. But yes, in general there is a liberal media bias in this country. Is it because of who's paying the bills, what's taught in universities, I don't pretend to know. But it's there.

To be fair and OPEN MINDED.... I will say that it works both ways. When the Republicans CAN get a word in edge wise, some of them have been known to take a poke at the Democrats. Then we have the extreme, like dear, sad Rush Limbaugh. He can't shut up when he should shut up...but...the liberals have more of the money now that Pres. Obama is redistributing the wealth ;) and can more than keep up with him...lol. I laugh because I believe that their all (media/politicians) in it together and it's all basically a game by the powers that be, to keep us at each other's throats. :)

A stupid joke that just happened to be at the expense of a high profile Republican's family is very different from a malicious, premeditated attack. Comedy will attack anyone and get in less trouble than direct politically motivated assaults. The overall result of Letterman's poorly considered joke has been more positive exposure for Sarah Palin, leading me to wonder if it wasn't a Republican publicity stunt from the very beggining. A few bucks thrown at key members of Letterman's staff and BLAMMO: Palin becomes America's sweetheart defending her family from The Big Bad "Liberal" Entertainment industry. As for media bias, I have three problems: *Anyone who has only one source for their personal news is doing themselves a terrible disservice. *Most of what I have seen are negative Letterman stories anyway. *But most importantly: It is nearly impossible to judge what is fair media coverage when we, as the observers, are obviously biased as well. (In scientific study the problem even has that name: "observer bias".)

So now bloggers who have the approval of the White House...having been invited to a offer a staged question at a press conference...are making fun of an infant with disabilities...I guess this is just a poorly considered 'joke' too? It is so obvious... that this is a smear campaign coming from the one person who would have reason to fear her in four years...than it makes me sick!
