Jon ad Kate- Are they making a mistake?

Well, I watched the show last night to see what announcement they were making and it told that they were seperating. At the end of the show a message ran across that said that they had filed for divorce yesterday. It seemed as though Kate was scared and very subdued, while Jon seemed very indifferent to the whole situation. It sounded as though she was trying to work things out and that he wasn't. I am glad that they have a plan to both spend time with the kids and I hope that they both continue to put the kids first. I believe that she is controlling to a point,but I don't see that he has ever been fully engaged in the whole situation. He has always seemed to be more involved in Jon than the family. However, I wish they would have managed to stay together instead of being another statistic of parents of multiples that haven't made it. Do you think this is the best decision that they could have made or should they have stayed seperated for awhile and try to work at this marriage? I believe that they should have gotten some counseling and tried a little harder to make this marriage work.
