Questions about taxes

I have not worked at all in 2008. A friend of mine was saying since my house and the utilities are all in my name I can file taxes and get a tax refund. I am living on child support, I have filed for disability, but still bills have to be paid and I don't really understand this. Does any one know about this? Thanks

So your only income is child support? Child support is not taxable income, so you will not owe taxes on it. Your friend may be thingking that you're eligible for the tax credit, but being that you have no earned income...I'm not sure. Your house (if their is a mortgage) is not going to help you, because the amount of interest will only reduce your tax liability. You can call HR Block or Jackson-Hewitt Tax preparers and they will tell you if you can file a return or not (and expect a refund). They will only charge you if you do so and get a refund. GOOD LUCK!
