Can anyone tell me how to shop for groceries, so I am not breaking the bank?

I recently have found myself in a situation in which I have had to fend for myself. My husband and I our now seperated; however he is jobless. Never the less I have to pay for all of the bills that we accrued together in order to protect my credit. Well at this point I don't have any extra funds laying around for my necessities. Can anyone give me some pointers in order to lower my grocery bill?

I save a lot by clipping and using coupons and only buying the produce and meats that are on sale. It also depends on which store you shop at, since some just naturally price their things lower. If meat is a big bargain, but comes in a family size package, I divide it up and freeze it in smaller portions when I get home. Buy store brands or generic whenever you can, as they are far less expensive than brand names and usually taste just as good. When you make your list, do so as much as possible from the sale flyers that your store sends out. Hope that helps.

Thank you for your response as well. What I have been finding lately (which I have never had to worry about before) is that fresh produce and meats are expensive and rarely on sale, it would be a good idea to buy in bulk though. I am trying to limit my salt intake so I am trying to stay away from processed foods, however they are always the least expensive.
