If I had a long busy day at work and I'm mentally and physically tired - I usually get home and plop myself in front of the TV and just sit there. Most of the time i'm not even processing what I'm watching. I'm literally just sitting there, almost sleeping but with eyes open. =P
But if I'm only mentally tired - I go out for a run (which are scheduled, typically). Going out running not only gives me an energy boost and exercise - it eases the tension and I really just tend to focus on my running. It's just me and the road. It's fun - I like it.

Transforming your mind focus is always an effective way to release yourself when feeling tension. Doing housework is also my option to achieve the goal. Besides, I often go outside and have fresh air, or doing some sports, which is very productive. Sleeping does not fit me because I tend to fail to fall asleep if there's so much tension there. LOL

I will go window shopping or go out to other place with my family's tecar.Sometimes,i will go out to shopping or window shopping with my friend.It is fun and help me reduce my tension which cause of study or personal problem.I also always surf internet to release my tension if i have a problem.That's the ways i release my tension.
