Do you think a person often taking naps depicts they are lazy or just a habit?

Hi everyone! There are times that I really feel sleepy at noontime. Especially if I’m not doing anything and after eating lunch, say around 2 – 3 pm in the afternoons when most of the time the surroundings is quiet. Sometimes when I feel I lack sleep the past night the next day I would feel sleepy. And as much as I would want to take naps I prevent myself from doing so especially if my dad is around. Why? Cause I feel awkward taking siestas. He might think that I am lazy and just always sleeps when there could be better things to do inside the house than sleep. I have a brother-in-law living with us. Now I think he is lazy cause every time he is around I see him just sleeping. He even sleeps on the couch in the living room. I remember when I wasn’t yet living with my parents my deceased mother used to tell me that she finds my brother-in-law lazy cause he does not do anything but take naps several times in a day. I just told my mother that it could be his habit but now I'm thinking otherwise hehe. What about you guys? Do you like taking naps? Is napping a habit?

Hi iskayz, afternoon sleeping here is considered a way of life, the shops close from 2.00 till 6.00 then re-open in the evenings, it's nap time, or siesta. Hotels with swimming pools have signs up asking people not to use them in the quiet times, 3-5, it is an offence to blow your car horn between those hours. Never never telephone anyone between 3 and 6 unless you fancy a mouthful of abuse. So afternoon napping is considered the norm but woe betide if you have a lie in. I don't think you should feel lazy if you choose to take a nap.

Hi there thea! I know some people have made siesta a part of their daily lives. But there are still a lot of people who only take siestas if they have nothing much to do and maybe feeling a little tired. I don't really think of taking naps as being lazy but I just feel awkward when other people would see me taking naps. Especially my dad cause I don't know if he would think of it as being lazy. Shops closing between 2 - 6pm? I've never heard of that. Here in the Philippines shops never closes unless it's night time. Happy posting!

I don't look at it as being lazy or a habit, just a chance to recharge my mental battery. I get up at about 5:30 every morning and at about noon or 1 I take a 2 hour nap and then I go to bed by 10 or 11. If I don't take my nap I am falling asleep by 9pm. I also find that if I don't take a nap my thinking gets foggy and I'm rather run down. If I take my nap, I feel recharged and ready to go. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Hi twoey! I think when people wake up too early in the morning they would feel sleepy in the afternoons. I also experience this and maybe it's a sign that I still lack sleep. But I wake up a little late, I don't feel sleepy in the middle of the day. I guess it's our body clock that tells us the time when to take nap and rest. Happy posting!

No, I don't think taking a nap in the afternoon is being lazy, as long as you don't do it several times. It's one way of saving your energy for the days ahead. like for me I usually take a short nap after lunch like 30 min or before 1pm, so that I would be in my full energy in the office in the afternoon.

Hi! I used to do the same when I was still working. My house is located near my work so after eating lunch I can still take a nap for about an hour and still don't get late for work. I feel I need to take a nap cause I wake up early to do some house chores before going to work and I feel sleep during the day. Happy posting!

I think that naps are great energizers.a nap can help boost your alertness level, especially if you lacked sleep.but when a person haven't done anything and he/she is constantly taking a nap,I think he/she is being lazy already.I don't see why his/her energy level is low that he/she needs a nap.

Hi coco! Yeah normally people who are really tired takes naps. I've experienced it before and dozing off for a few minutes is a good energizer. Now my brother-in-law, he takes nap several times in a day but I don't think it's because he's tired cause he doesn't do anything in the house whenever he is around. My sister (his wife) and I used to joke about his napping all the time. We call him "kaintu" hehe. You know what that means fellow Filipino citizen. Keep posting!

I don't think taking a nap means being lazy. And quite the opposite, it's a very effective way to recover from lack of sleep or tireness. I mean taking a shot nap like after lunch or taking a nap on a bus ride. It's supported by scientific research.

Hi! I try to avoid taking naps when I travel long distance. Not because it' a sign of laziness but I just want to be aware of what's happening around me while traveling. I am also being careful with strangers around me. Keep posting!

In Europe don't they allow their employees a specified time during the day to nap? I think napping is probably healthy, especially if you work hard. Not sure about more then one nap a day, unless you do not get enough sleep at night. And I do think it probably becomes a habit. Think about infants, you eventually get them on a schedule and their body will just need their naps at specific times during the day. If they do not get their nap, then they become cranky. I personally can not nap, I feel more tired when I wake up. It's along the same lines if I get too much sleep, I feel like I didn't sleep at all.

I think in all offices employees are allowed to take naps during their break time. I know someone too who can't take a nap for 30minutes only. He said napping gives him a headache if it's only for a short time. Most of the time I don't take naps even if I feel sleepy. After several hours of keeping myself awake sleepiness passes away. I just try to sleep early at night time so I'll have longer hours of resting. Keep posting!

In my opinion, habitually taking a nap in every afternoon is good for health and a right way of relieving oneself from negative factors. But if someone takes several naps everyday then I will consider him lazy.

Hi! We have the same ideology about a person taking a nap. I know there are others who does it everyday at a certain time and always almost at the same time everyday. It seems to some it is a habit and there is nothing wrong with it. Just like what we do for kids who needs to take naps in the afternoons. But for me, if a person does it several times in a day, I too consider that person lazy. I only take naps if I really need it. Keep posting!

We all have our own particular biorhythms and some people do get sleepy in the afternoon and need a nap. I don't but I have a friend who does and she feels very tired if she doesn't get that hour in the afternoon. My husband sometimes needs a nap in the afternoon. As for your brother-in-law, he could be either bored or lazy but taking several naps during the day is not good.

Hi! My brother-in-law takes naps several times in a day. In my observation it's a sign of laziness hehe. I may sound harsh but he does not do anything inside the house whenever he is around. He eats, watches TV and if he's not doing these 2, he is sleeping. Even after just waking up in the morning he does take a nap before eating lunch. He couldn't be that too tired in just a few hours after getting up in bed. Besides, it's not only me who notices his sleeping habits but his wife also, my sister. Maybe it's the reason why I don't want my father to see me just lying around dozing. He might think that I am lazy too. But if he's not around, I try to rest if I needed it. Happy posting!

No I do not think napping is lazy at all, especially if you do not sleep well the night before. Sometimes a daytime nap can be really good to recharge the batteries. It would be lazy if all you did was nap, get up and then still have no energy or intention to do anything useful with your day.

Oh yes.. I think if a person's priority is taking naps even if there are piles of work to do then he/she is lazy. If I have some things to do and feel sleepy at the same time, I try to finish whatever it is that I have to do the quickest time possible so I can finally rest. I won't be able to take a nap if I have something in mind that needs to be done. Happy posting!

I don't think seeing a person who takes naps is a good basis for me to judge whether they are lazy or not. There are many factors why that person took his nap. Could be... he was tired from a night's work, or he has a condition that makes him always sleepy ( I guess it's termed as narcolepsy... don't quote me on this, I am not that sure). Anyhow, where I am trying to get at... is the point that we cannot judge to conclusions about a person's personalit... just because he or she loves taking naps.

Well I know people who are tired do need to take naps. Sometimes if we are really feel tired we just can't help it but feel sleepy in the middle of our work. I think the only factor why someone needs to take naps is the feeling of tiredness after a hard days work other than that, it could be a habit if he just bored. Narcolepsy.. I've seen it in the internet, a sleeping disorder. But I don't think my brother-in-law has it. He could be just lazy or bored. Really, believe me hehe.. Keep posting!

I don't think nap taking is a habit, simply because I don't think you can make yourself go to sleep. I have a lot of chronic pain, and even if I am very tired, often I just can't sleep without medication. Sometimes I'm just sitting watching TV, and it may be a really interesting programme, but I fall asleep. That's my body deciding I need rest, and there's nothing I can do about it. I think we're all the same.

Well I think it's kinda different in your case since you need to take medication for you to fall asleep, maybe most of the day you would feel tired cause you could be lacking sleep during night time. I think it's considerable and healthy for you to take naps whenever you feel sleepy.I mean grab the chance to take naps whenever you can. But sometimes when I do really feel tired I can't help to fall asleep. My eyes seems has a mind of it's own and I would just find myself sleeping, even in front of my laptop hehe. Keep posting!

Take a nap can make our body feels fitter. That's not planned for lazy thing ever but for body's recovery after feeling tired. My rasul, Muhammad SAW always take a nap exactly at 12 o'clock.

Yeah you're right, they don't live our lives hehe. Well I'm not a lazy person and I know my dad wouldn't think that way if he sees me taking a nap at the couch. Maybe I'm just not used to take naps where someone could see me sleeping cause I'm used to living alone. Keep posting!

I like taking naps. I don't think it's a sign of lazziness. The body just seems so tired, especially if you are very stresed and worked out during the day. Afternoon naps are just so very nice.

I do not think taking a nap is being lazy. There are people who take naps to refresh themselves. I have read some articles that taking a nap does bring forth health benefits. But I really do not take any naps most especially in the afternoon since I find it hard to sleep in the evening if a take a nap.

well i dont think they are lazy like me i like to take a nap but it doesnt mean i am lazy its not that i am patronizing myself or something just that i need to take a nap to relieve me from tension and gives me energy and the much needed rest. It is better i believe to take a nap because it really revitalizes us.

If you are tired, then I bleiev you should take a nap. I had that problem before but worse than you. I had a sleeping disorder and had to take sedatives for pain. It looks lazy to people who dont know why you nap so much but its not lazy if you worked hard and didnt get sleep and just are exhausted and want peace. Nothing wrong with that. :)
