Do you get a mean look when you ask for paper bags

at the grocery store? Most times (but not always) when I get to the check out register with my groceries, I will get a 'look' from the bagger, as though I've committed a crime to ask for paper. To me, paper won't stay in landfills as long, so I would think the bagger would be happy about it. Has anyone else had a similar situation?

I try always to carry my cloth bags with me. And I know that the checkers don't like to handle them but I always joke with them so that they will not treat me badly.

Why don't the baggers like to handle the cloth bags, are they afraid of getting a communicable disease? Maybe the next time you can land an explosive cough or sneeze on them before handing them over, but I suppose that would be worse than me asking for paper, lol. Thanks for your comment.

As far as I know they don't like to handle them because they are very hard to fill, they are thin and don't hold a shape well. I do spray mine each week for germs.

I wish my store had paper. Did you hear about all the plastic bags floating in the ocean? Plastic bags should be outlawed.Tell the bagger that they will thank you later for demanding paper.

Yes, I did hear about all of the plastic bags floating in the ocean, and how our marine life are choking on them. I also heard that a huge area of plastic debris the size of Texas is floating somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. It has accumulated from all over the world. It's unbelievable. Thank you for your comment.

I'm not sure my local grocery store even has paper bags available anymore...all I see are the plastic ones. The bagger might be giving you a dirty look simply because it's less convenient for him to get to the paper bags. Does he have to go somewhere else to get them or reach awkwardly for them? A little thing like that can annoy people -- don't assume he's condemning you for some environmental reason. My guess is he isn't.

Hi echomonster, Yes, come to think of it the bagger has to bend down to get to the paper bags. I didn't think of that before. From the way they act you'd think I was asking them to draw blood for me. Thanks for your noteworthy comment.

i know what you mean. they say plastic is contaminating our world and enough people are not recycling it. paper is easily recycled. so i dont understand why they act like that. guess they have all the wrong ideas.
