Do you avoid controversial discussions?

Hi, Do you people avoid responding and commenting on controversial topics because it may reduce your reputation or ranking if someone does not agree with you. I personally do NOT avoid such topics. I respond to such topics and write what I feel about it. I do not bother about the reputation or ranking whether it will go down or up. What about you?

Not really. As long as I am interested in the topic, I go ahead in respond, depending on my stand about it. Besides, this is a site where we can share our thoughts. And so far, I haven't encountered arguing with a fellow mylotter due to a certain issue.

Yes I also do the same thing. I respond to the discussion if I like it whatever may be the topic without bothering whether my rating will go up or down. We must always express our opinion. happy posting.

well at first i don't bother commenting to controversial and hot topics like religion and politics but when i found out that it decreases your rankings and might also affect your earnings i tried hard to avoid those topics although i'm a very opinionated person.. =D i don't know maybe i'm just being practical.. we all know that it's hard to earn here in mylot so i'd rather avoid those topics just so not to affect my earnings. i think it's really unfair, you're doing your part to make the topic livelier by stating out your opinions then people will rate you negative, so i'd rather not respond to these topics at all. however, when i really wanted to comment in a hot or controversial topic i try to consider both sides as possible and i cautiously watch my words trying to be polite as possible and stating in the end that "it's just my personal opinion, i don't know if this may be right" so that people will really understand that it's really just an opinion and there's no reason for them to rate me negative just because i don't agree with their own opinions. =D anyway, nice discussion you have here.. =D

I sometimes feel that if I respond to an controversial topic then it might hurt somebody but still I cannot control to respond as I like to express my opinion and believe that everyone has a right to do so. It is an good tactic by you to state that"it's just my personal opinion" so that the people might not get that much hurt and may not give you negative(-). Thanks for responding enjoy posting

Well, I do not read those controversial discussions such as poltics and religion at all. I'm not very keen on these topics although I do occassionally talk about them at home with my famly. However, I do not like to talk about them outside of my home, because it's quite sensitive. Everyone may have their own opinion and I do not think that there is really any right or wrong opinion. However, other people may not think so, thus i do not wish to talk about these if possible. It's not about the reputation or ranking, but more of my personal character that do not wish to talk in regards to these topics at all.

I don't avoid those controversial discussions on purpose.I only respond to those discussuibs that I am interested in and I really have something to say,no matter whether they are controvercial or not. Mylot is origially a place to discuss something,so why avoid,as long as we don't violate the rules.

that is right. We should not hesitate to respond or comment on discussions only because they are of controversial nature . If we like the discussion , then we should go ahead and respond no matter what others feel about it as long as it does not violate the mylot guidelines.

If it is a controversial issue i feel strongly about I will say something regardless, i don't care what people think of me or my opinions. i feel that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and as long as they aren't critisizing me because of mine i don't care if they disagree with me. i think it is great that there are more people who stand up (or write about) issues that they believe in, even if they are controversial such as abortion or polotics, or really anything for that matter.

aditya, no, I do not avoid controversial topic in order to protect my ranking; I am a bit beyond worrying about such things. I do try to avoid topics on religion and politics because they bring out the worst in some of us. I will only respond to such topics if I feel there is overt deception, dishonesty, out-and-out slander. We shall leave it at that. What I am more inclined to do is avoid topics I feel will be deleted; I am not too fond of loosing money I earn on this site so I avoid joining in on such postings.

when the oontrovery happened, there are a lot of the reasons in them, i think the most important thing to make a clear reason between the commenting on the controverial topics, the main aim is to make a clear reason or the truth on the discussion. not the reputation or rank.these things can not be connected with the truth or ration reasons. i think peronally.if the discusion turn to the quarrel between the people and lastly change to the strike by person attack, it is not neccessary to say continuously, this case,i think you choose to go away from here and there is the best wisdom to choose from.because all of you are not good result,it truely is not neccessary for such this question.

Yes I do avoid controversial topics, as those will just cause problems and would not get me anywhere, except decreased earnings. However, we do have a right to share our views even in those discussions, as our rights haven't been taken away from us, so we should feel free to speak our mind even if users disagree with us. Everyone has a right to their own opinion whether they are right or wrong. I try to pick discussions that interest me and ones that maybe I can help others out, as that is what I like to do. I have learned so much in here, and I hope to continue to learn, whether there be controversial discussions or not, and whether others disagree with us or not. Well, good luck to you and happy mylotting.

I think that responding to controversial discussion is one of the best thing to do here on mylot, seeing and trying to comprehend the different point of view is really interesting, too bad some people are somewhat narrowminded and if you don't agree with them they reate you -, i think that we should not care of this thing, and keep on posting, in my personal opinion a discussion where everyone agrees is somewhat boring.

Although I do not try and be unnecessarily rude I will not bite my tongue and I will go against the grain if that is what I think feel and no to be true to myself I am not asking anyone to think the same so forgive me if i expect them to honor me the same privelage of disagreeing with them and leave it at that
