I am a little old fashioned when it comes to some stuff one of which being I love to can stuff and make homemade preserves and candies. Well some one told my I was practicing a dying art and that struck me as sad. So I figured if I would see how many people on mylot are still canning or making homemade preserves or candies. I am just curious and want to be sure from the git go I do not think more or less of some one based on whether or not they can or even cook at all. If you do can or love to cook I would love to hear about your favorite recipes.

I believe canning is a dying art. I always loved to do it. I haven't been able to do any as much and I really miss it. I freeze most everything now. Frozen foods seem to hold their flavor and color better. I plan to make a lot of jam this year and can it up to give for Christmas gifts. Canned goods make great gifts especially for those who don't like to do it.

Oh yeah I love to use the baby food jars and fill them with my preserves. Put a bunch of those together in a pretty basket and there is a gift that was easy to make and inexpensive. Perfect for teachers and that one neighbor you never talk to but for some reason they sent you a cookie basket. Don't get me wrong dude I loved the cookies and the thought I was just not prepared. Thanks for sharing and Happy Mylotting

I don't think it can be called a dying art. I think its a wonderful thing to know how to do sweets like pastries and more. I can and I love to do pastries.. During my school days I was making it earn since I study by myself. I'm earning a lot just by making patries. I even love baking more! I love to do tarts, cookies and brownies. I don't know if you ever heard about Filipino pastries and delicasies but if you wanna try I'll be more than happy to teach you how to make it.

Ooooohhhhh Please send me some recipes! I (and my family) would be eternally grateful. I have had some samples a long time ago but then the lady that was cooking them went back home. I really enjoy cooking and would love to be able to add Filipino pastries to my menu. And thank you for the offer, that is too sweet.
