My cat pees in the sink

I've got a very beautiful cat called 'Gravin' that's Dutch for 'Duchess'. She is very smart and talented. I've teached her to give paws just like a dog every time I give her a little piece of candy. But what I don't seem to manage is to teach her not to pee in my sink. She just does it all the time. I've tried giving her a gentle tap on the head to make her notice that she's naughty. I've tried spraying her with water every time I see her do it, and yet see still pees in my sink. It's so frustrating! Anyone know an answer?

You must remember, that ccat is not dog, so all your taps are useless here. Cat has its own personality and think that it is leader of your family. Is your cat neutered? That really helps with many bad habbits. Cats are more relaxed and even their masters get some rest.

yes she was indeed neutered, but it didn't help a thing.

Better the sink than your bed or carpet, I wish I could get my cats to do that! Much easier to clean up.

I was thinking it was the bathroom sink, but with it being the kitchen sink I think I might have an idea. The kitchen sink is exposed to more bacteria than the bathroom sink. After all not only do you clean your food there, but you either rinse or wash the dirty dishes and pots in that sink. The food and bacteria particles will stick to the pipes and will, for lack of a better word, ferment. This will create an odor that your cat either thinks is another cat intruding on her territory or that it is simply attractive to her as a place that is a litter box. You might try the old vinegar and baking soda solution to see if this might discourage the problem. Put about a half cup of baking soda down each drain and then pour about a cup of vinegar in immediately afterwards. Put the stoppers in the drains for a half hour or so then remove the stoppers and run VERY hot water down the drains. It will help clean the drains and eliminate the odors and it isn't harmful to the cat. Also, does she have a litter box? It could be that she doesn't like the litter. Also the question arises is she peeing anywhere else that isn't appropriate? If she is it could be a urinary tract infection (my Willy has one right now...they're easy to treat with antibiotics and steriods...usually it's from the cat eating dry food and not drinking enough water). I lean more towards the drains. I'm not saying that your aren't clean, but there are odors that we can't smell that cats and dogs can detect.

I wish my cat would pee in the sink, it would be so much easier to clean. So count your blessings at least she isn't peeing in your bed.

Okay, you win! I've teached my cats not to enter the bedrooms. They wake me up every morning when my mom gets up, they sit right in the door opening, but they won't come in. Brilliant!

Wow that is awsome what you have taught her it be nice if she peed in the toilet and not the sink. I try to get something to cover the sink up for the time that it is not being used. is it your kitchen sink or bathroom? If it is the bathroom sink close the bathroom door. Maybe get some apple bitter for dogs cat for bitting and things you dont want them there they have it at Petco. Try to spray the sink with it and see what happens just a suggestion... I still cant get over how you tought to give paw and everything that is just faboulus....

Thanks for the tips, It's the kitchen sink. And that's pretty disgusting, because we clean all the food in that thing...
