Today's adventure

So a friend of mine offered me this miniature fridge and since it's been a year and a half since I was able to move back in and not much else has been done, including getting my kitchen put in, I thought a piece of a fridge is better than none! At least I could put juice and salad fixings in it.
A week went by before I was finally able to pick the thing up (just as my car had taken to running hot) and it was raining intermittently but it was one of those now or possibly never moments.
We figure out how to maneuver it into my little two door car in which the back seat does not fold down and trunk space is limited by reclining the front passenger seat and angling the appliance. Getting it out of the car -- alone -- would be another story.
As it happens I left my friend's to drive to my mechanic so he could see what was happening when the car overheated. Long story there, I'll save it for another discussion. This morning I still had not taken the fridge out of the car and contemplated leaving it until I returned from work.
I decided to go outside to the driveway and see just how heavy it was since I was going to need a handtruck to get it up the steps any way and I needed to rearrange all the boxes and storage containers and crap to find a place to fit it in.
To my surprise and amazement I was able to get it out of the car -- alone -- fairly easily (after reclining the driver seat) and by tilting it slightly I was able to "walk" it to the steps and up in through the door.
Now to find a place to put it so it can settle and be ready for plugging in tomorrow...

what an ordeal, I have to move from this place, and I won't be taking my stove it is old and hardly works, I will go without a stove for a few months and then buy a new one where the store will bring it in and set it up.

I thought the landlord had already lined up another tenant? Will you be able to rent on a month to month basis or will you have to sign another lease? Where exactly in Canada is it that you live?

A year and a half without a refridgerator- how have you managed? I can't imagine as that would mean that I would have to go to the store every day. I would hate that! I am glad that you were able to get it into the house by yourself. I bet you did feel good about it.

Well, in the past year I really haven't spent much time at home. I don't have any kitchen facilities at all and until I get the sink put in I am not interested in cooking. I spend a lot of time with my significant other and I usually cook over there.
Last year I had two jobs and one of them was in a restaurant that had pretty good (meaning healthy) food. Until my brother arrived recently with his kids I would go into the main house and use their fridge.

Wow, sounds like an adventure of the miniature fridge! Maybe you can write "An Adventure of the Miniature fridge" from the viewpoint of the little friendly fridge.
I can't imagine living without a fridge! In Singapore, everyone has a fridge, the weather is hot and humid, impossible to keep food fresh without a fridge. The fridge in my house is big, big enough for me to stand inside and freeze oh!

I have been able to go into the main house for whatever I need so I have always had access to that fridge. However, with my brother here in the post Katrina hostel along with his three kids it is becoming increasingly necessary for me to have everything I need in my own little "apartment."
I had planned to purchase a refrigerator long before now but things kept coming up and unexpected class cancellations at the school meant less income to work with to pay for gas, car insurance, phone, etc.
I will now be able to at least enjoy a salad without purchasing take out. I am off to the market shortly for some basic supplies.

haha, that sounds like another adventure, "The Adventure of Canellita in the marketplace".
What happens to your main house now? Are you able to make it as good as new? That Katrina caused devastation for many of you in New Orlean, but benefitted us in Singapore, particularly the marine industry. All of a sudden, orders for oil rigs poured in, and kept the workers in the shipyard working more than eighty hours per week, seven days a week.

The main house contains my 86 year old grandfather (owner), my father's sister, my brother and his three kids. I still have to go in the house to shower and use the washing machine but I have a door that opens into the hallway in the house.

It was just a few steps to get it into the door. I was quite pleased with myself though.
