Is politics a pure waste of time to follow?

I have not seen much come out of any political candidate. You can vote for your favorite candidate, but your life probably still remains same or worsens. Same holds if the opponent is elected. Then why follow politics as if its most important thing in the world?

Yes, this is what happens when people continualy vote for the same two parties election after election, year after year, decade after decade and some how expect change. Someone once said, no matter who you vote for, the government wins. this could so easily be changed, all it takes is enough people to wake up and realize we have all been swindled by the two party - left/right - conservative/liberal illusion.

I actually agree here about the downfalls of the two party system. Just not sure that any country, no matter how many parties, has found the best way to govern. My thinking is the problem is less the typed of govt and more the type of people who want to be our leaders.

I used to get upset about the amount of political apathy I would encounter, people going about their lives unconcerned with even their local School Board, let alone the Federal government, but now I realize the fewer people that care, the better it is for those of us that do care. Just sit back and let us run the show, because the more amateurs that get involved, the longer it takes to get anything done! (He says with tongue shoved into cheek.)

Politics should be important in people's lives, because the power still lies in the people. But only if everybody is willing to vote all the crooks out of office and start fresh. Yes, both parties are corrupt, but there are a few good candidates that run from time to time, and we have to start somewhere. The problems won't go away just because we ignore the. Instead of giving up, we must find new ways to defeat the real enemies. I think there are not enough people who care about politics. Most people just assume there is nothing we can do, and that's why our country is going downhill at such a rapid rate.

Hi applepod, For the last 20 years or so I followed the happenings in politics, but now as time goes on, I am so discouraged that I don't see the need to use up as much time on politics as I did before. And I don't understand why the pople in the House of Representatives, for instance, are being voted in over and over, when clearly nothing is getting better in society. Our government is robbing us all blind, yet our government is always crying about their empty coffers. I'm going to have to find a different and exciting hobby.

It's not a waste of time IMO, you have to stay informed and learn all the tricks those sneaky bastar*ds pull, they love uninformed voters it helps them move their radical agenda's from both sides, we as informed voters are nothing more then a thorn in their side and I love it!!! Brings me to another point, I'm thinking there is something to the politicians pandering to illeagal aliens not educated about our founding fathers.

I don't think following a particular candidate is as crucial as being informed. Of course you won't like any of them completely, but it is important to see who you think can improve the general welfare of the world the most. The more educated the public is,the more likely it is to make a positive change.
