If you lose your job due to sickness what happens?

I know if you get sacked it's your own fault for doing something wrong and if you're made redundant it's because the company needs to get rid of staff, but what if you've been off sick, does anyone know whether you get redundancy pay, or is it as if you just got sacked. In my contract and the law it says SSP is paid for 6 months, I've reached about 6 months now and work need to contact my GP to find out how much longer I'll be off for, but if it's too long I'll lose my job. I'm sure if it comes to that they'll explain what happens, but I was just curious if anyone knows exactly what will happen.

http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/life/employment/employment_factsheets.htm http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/e_sickness_at_work.pdf (this link wasn't working for me, but it might behave for you) Try those sites, they might be able to give you more information.

Didn't give me much information, just that employers can't sack you for being disabled, but not much about actually being off and disabled. I do know now though that work will need to give me a special form if I do lose my job due to sickness, so I can take it to the right benefit people, thankyou.

These are the people to go too as well if you need any more information, it's a government department though, you know what that means. You're welcome. :)
