I am interested in photography and would really like to work for myself in this area. Can anyone point me in the right direction to start a photography business?

You have to decide what type of photograph you are going to do. The most profitable is to do portrats and weddings. By some estimates it will cost you between $10,000 and $50,000 to get started depending on what you are going to do and do you need a studio. Many get started by working for someone else to get experience and build up a following. Most of the "glamor" jobs shooting landscapes and wildlife or being a news photographer require years of doing it before you make the big score. It is not an easy business to break into and most do not make the big money until later in life. Several that I know in the area aare working a full time job and doing this on the side trying to build upa a business.

Depending on your local, ability, equipment and desire, you can fairly easily start up a photography business. I started my company (Los Angeles) with a mid-level digital SLR and rented the lenses (and/or other equipment I needed). I now make any where between $80K and $100K per year.
