When Politics and Entertainment Mix...

Recently it's hard to tell whether my TV is on a news or political show or an entertainment show. Something about Michael Jackson has been the top story on virtually every show on the news networks for a full week now and the seemingly never-ending saga of Governor Mark Sanford's love life sounds more like something from the SoapNet than MSNBC or CNN. This has gotten me thinking about something to take a bit of a break from the serious doom and gloom of most of the politics discussions here on myLot. Regardless of which party, if any, any of us who post here frequently belong to or agree with I think we can all agree there have been enough political "characters" in recent months to keep just about every Hollywood actor, director, screen-writer and everyone else involved in the movies busy until the next Oscar presentation. Let's start casting the first few political movies that are sure to be blockbuster hits and Academy Award winners. I think our first movies should be about John Edwards, Rod Blagojevich and Mark Sanford. Who do you think would be the best actors to play the leading roles in these future hits? I think the perfect choice to play John Edwards would have been the late Robert Urich but he's no longer with us so any other ideas? I think Renee Zelweigger would be a great Elizabeth. I can see John Cusack as Blago; he can do the accent since he's also from Chicago and the hair can be done or there are always wigs, right? Senator Rolan Burris can be played by Morgan Freeman. I'm not sure about Patti... We're left with Mark Sanford. I have a feeling HE would like some hunky leading man type to play him but I don't think so... Penelope Cruz could play Maria. Please give me some suggestions and let me know if there are any other movies we should make! Annie

This discussion is fun, I have to jump onto the Mark Sanford role and give a quirky suggestion, now this actor is a great actor and a great director, but in his personal life, not such a great guy in my opinion: Woody Allen. Woody Allen is actually ever more of a dirtbag than Sanford because he cheated on his wife with her adopted daughter. Plus Sanford is funny looking in my opinion, so I think that would be a good match in that aspect too. I think a Rush Limbaugh movie with Louie Anderson playing him would also be entertaining as well .

I agree that Sanford is funny looking. For some reason since he's been on TV so much this past week I keep thinking he reminds me of someone but I can't figure out who! Wood Allen might be the best choice even though he is a bit old to play Sanford. I'm glad SOMEONE thought this was a fun discussion! I thought it would be but nobody else seems interested in laying casting director. I know there had already been talk about who could play Obama in a movie. I think Will Smith would be the obvious choice and his wife, Jada, would be a good choice as Michelle. If there were a movie on the Clintons, how do Dennis Quaid and Merle Streep sound? Bruce Dern would make a great Joe Biden. Of course, we all know Tina Fey would be Sarah Palin and I'd like to nominate the young actress who plays Emalyn on "Army Wives" for Bristol and Tim Riggins from "Friday Night Lights" as Levi. OMG, I was just about to comment on your choice of Louie Anderson as Limbaugh but I just now realized I was thinking of Louis ARMSTRONG! OOPS! Annie

Great choice for Chris Matthews. Obviously, in any movie about politics someone will have to play Chris. Annie
