What plans do you or your family have for the weekend?

United States

Here in the United States we will be celebrating Independence Day tomorrow, July 4. The day still has special meaning for most of us and we celebrate with cookouts, long weekends away, and always with fireworks! But then many of us take advantage of our weekends to do something special or just relax at home after a long week of work. Others, like my daughter who is a nurse, have to work even on some of the weekends. What plans, wherever you live, do you and your family have for this weekend? Karen

I am not an American, so I guess I won't be getting a holiday. But I do respect all the freedom fighters, who staked their lives to give us a sound sleep. Their sacrifice is really laudable, and even though I am not meant to celebrate it, I will be happy. Cheers, AJ-Rox

Hello Ajrox, and thank you :) The day is indeed extra special to those of us in America, and this year it happens to fall on the weekend, though whenever it is, almost everyone here gets a holiday to enjoy the parades and cookouts and fireworks. I hope you also have an enjoyable weekend. Karen

I'm in the UK and haven't got a lot planned this weekend. It was our goddaughters birthday yesterday and my best friends little girls birthday today so I have to make phone calls as one lives an hour away and the other lives in Kefalonia. We can't venture too far from home because we got two puppies a fortnight ago and it's like having newborn babies!!

Hello Hairy :) I love celebrating children's birthdays, so that sounds like fun. I'm sure your friend will understand that you can't attend the one. I imagine those new puppies are adorable! But you're right, they need such frequent care, like tiny babies would. Enjoy them :) Karen

Hello Yugasini. Yes, the formal Declaration of Independence for the United States was signed on July 4, 1776, so each year, we celebrate with parades, and sometimes plays that children put on, food, and fireworks when it gets dark! Thank you for your nice wish :) Karen

My husband has been away for work all week. He comes home in a few hours. So today we will just spend time together relaxing. The kids have missed him a lot. Then tomorrow we have two picnics to go to. First is an old family friends. Then we got invited to one of my husbands coworkers. Where they live is right by the fireworks display so we'll probably stay there till firework time. Then we are probably going to take the kids to grandma's and go out to the bar. My sister left her husband and is living with us and my brother in law is in town just broken up with his girlfriend. So we all need a night out lol. Sunday is completely open too.

Hello friend, I have not made any concrete plans yet. A few of my old pals are here in the city for the weekend so most probably we'll meet up and remember our old times. May be we'll catch a movie and eat out. It's all speculation now.

Hi Emilie. What luck to have to work...so sorry about that, and your nasty weather. I hope you get to go through with your other weekend plans and enjoy them, though I know you'll miss your daughter while she's at camp. But what a good experience for her, and it does give you a bit of a break :) Karen

Hello Meandmy. Your plans do sound relaxing and fun. I love spending time with family :) I know many children are afraid of all the noise that some of the fireworks made. I hope you all have a nice time. Karen
