Flying with oxygen

My husband has emphysema and is on oxygen all the time. We would like to do some traveling to visit family members in another state and wondered what is the best way to fly with oxygen. My husband has portable tanks but the airlines will not let anyone take their own tanks on a plane. I know that we can rent them from the airlines, but we have heard that there are newer types of portable equipment available now. Has anyone had any expenience with these. Thanks!

I feel flight is a good opportunity to breath in more oxygen than on land. I would turn on the blast to let out as much oxygen as possible directed to my seat. In normal cases, I never get dizzy for short flights, maybe for the abundant supply of oxygen. In your case, do you mean to use the portable tanks after landing? Better double check with the airline counters before hand.

Thanks for the comments. My husband would need to use the portable tanks all the time--even on the plane. But the portable concentrator might be less expensive than renting tanks from the airline.
