would you give him some? if had up to 80 cents in ur pocket. or would you say no i don't have any and walk away. tell y or y not. if i was in this situation n i just was. i had about 30 cents in my pocket. n i was heading towards the bus station the man asked us if we had some change to spare i said no n my friend was nice enough to give him some. see i felt bad but then in the pass year i gave change to 2 ppl on the bus stop with me i felt like i was done giving my money to strangers. plus i felt like ur a grown man i have no job i'm 16. wat do i have to give u my money. also lots of ppl told me after u give money to the homeless they buy beer or giving it to someone else. so if i had food i would be happy to give them some. once i even collected have cent i found on the ground n then when i would see someone homeless i would give them the change i have collected over the month. (only gave it to women)

Here's the thing with the "homeless." Not all of them are actually homeless. Going out and begging, pretending to be homeless is their job. Seriously. There was a news report done on it several years ago in Colorado and I remember it vividly. There are many people who, rather than work for an honest days wage, go out in the morning, hit the streets and beg, pretending to be homeless. What's more, people who do this who were interviewed (with their identities concealed) reported that they make over $30,000 a year on average. That's more than I make. They have homes and cars and they're not starving. They simply choose to beg rather than get a real job, pay taxes, etc. You can bet these same people are on the welfare system, getting food stamps, medicaid and money from the government while they're out there begging for your spare change. Occasionally, I'll give to a homeless person. More often than not, I'll offer to buy them food. If they accept, then I follow through. If they refuse, I pass them by. They must not be so hungry if they turn it down. I'm more likely to give a little to the college kid who sets up on the corner with a hat and a guitar or something like that.

....well said, I couldn't agree with you more....begging is a "full time job" for some people...I know one guy who is at the same spot for 10 years..."working' from 2PM to 8PM....next to busy highway exit...

i haven't really heard about this. but it sounds sorta true.i heard the homeless can make alot of money at a time. like 10 bucks a hour probably. especially if there really old or young. thats why its better to give food.

Most of the time when I go out, I see a lot of homeless people. I guess being in a third world country, it is just a normal site. I do not choose gender when giving alms. I guess my criteria would involve giving the bigger amount to the elderly and the handicapped. I still give to the children but the bigger amount goes to the elderly and the handicap because I believe that the children could still do a lot of things to improve their lives while the other two will have a difficult time working.

Yup honestly,if i have some extra coins on my pocket and i don't seems to need it,i will give it to the homeless man because he may not have eaten for hours and is still trying to beg for enough money to feed himself. But if i am really poor and my family is not doing well,i will give him like 1/4 of the 80 cents which is 20 cents as it is the most that i can give to him as i need the money too.

I give to the homeless sometimes, because I am a softie for them. My dad used to stop and give them a dollar and he'd say, "Don't spend it on booze." Lol, like they would listen to that. One time in London, England a homeless man was sitting outside of a fruit vendor area, so I got him a bag of fruit, and he was so grateful, which lifted my heart to see him so happy. Not all homeless are spending donations on bad stuff.

I will not give him or her any change, and I will pretend I cannot understand what he or she say.

I don't give money to homeless people. I feel like there are shelters and government programs out there to help them. I'm in college and don't have much money. I save all the change I get. I do feel for the people in the streets. I also feel like there are ways for them to get out of the streets and make a good life for themself. There are resources they can use and I feel like they should take advantage of those resources instead of soliciting for money in the street.

Well, I prefer giving food to homeless people on the streets rather than money. This is because I don't think the money they collect from donations are always used to buy healthy food for themselves or their family, if they have one. I usually have some biscuits in my bag specifically to be given to people out on the streets. Sometimes, when I have left-overs from a restaurant, I just give it to them too. With food, at least I know they will really eat it and it will be good for them. But there are also times, albeit rare, that I give few cents to them.
