Would you recommend satellite or cable tv?

I have heard many good things about Satellite TV and their cheap rates but I've also heard bad things like the picture goes when it rains or snows. I currently am a cable subscriber and have been considering satellite tv and with their great prices, I'm tempted but not sure I'm willing to sacrifice my picture quality to save money. If you have satellite, can you tell me what is good or bad about it and if I should make the switch?

I had cable for years and years, and when we moved to our current house, the only option was satellite. Went with Dish Network, and the first year was fine. The price was really cheap for what I was paying for cable, and we had many more channels with satellite, lots more lol. Occasionally, when there was a bad storm with heavy cloud cover, the satellite would go out. I would say during the first 2 years(2 year contract), it went out maybe 4 or 5 times-not too bad. As far as picture quality, it was great, no complaints at all. A lot of stations were in HD, which was a big difference. The real problem I ended up having with them, and I'm sure it's not limited to that company, really any company that sticks you with a 2 year contract, they screwed us royally. The first 2 year contract ran out. I didn't pay it any mind, just kept paying every month. Started researching and comparing plans to Direct TV. Direct had better deals. So I called Dish and said-hey, our contract's up, Direct has this for this price, what can you do for us? The guy actually said, nothing. We stand behind our prices, and that's it. So, cancelled with Dish, signed up with Direct. Well, Dish started calling us left and right, I finally spoke with them and told them I was really disappointed at their customer service blah blah. So, they offered me a really really great deal, and I caved and took it. Well, the lesson I've learned from this, whenever you negotiate any kind of contract with any company-whether it's a cell phone company, cable/satellite, whatever, before you agree, have them mail or email you the exact terms. I spent 8 months of having to call in every single month, no less then 3 times a month trying to get my monthly bill total to what the lady promised me. And, of course, they outsource their calls a lot, so I'd have to hang up and call back and ask for someone who spoke clear English. Then, there was the promises of it was fixed they found the problem, pay this amount, so I did, and then I'd get late fees for not paying the amount on the bill. So the hassles started all over again. Started that new contract in August, and by the time February rolled around, I told them to piss off and stick their contract where the sun doesn't shine. So, my boyfriend tried calling them to work it out. They had the nerve to tell him, look at all these credits you've received to this point....I'm not issuing you anymore. Ummm, the credits were issued because you miss billed me, thus it was your fault, and now you're not honoring the terms....So, got their collection agents calling all the time, but I don't care. Funny thing too, the bill from the collection agency, is for the correct amount of what we really did owe. So, apparantly, they finally figured out they were wrong lol. Sorry for the rant, but just wanted to point that out to you to be very careful. They suck you in to those contracts, and treat you like dirt. Get everything documented in writing before saying the final yes. I never had any problems before with companies, but I promise I never will again after that lesson.

I would say that satellite TV is a whole lot better than cable. I would however recommend that you do your research especially on their contracts. Most post it on their website. DishNetwork offers cheaper rates than DirecTV but DirecTV has a better lineup for programming and more HD channels.

I like my cable better. It is a little more expensive but all my friends that have satellite TV are unhappy. They say that when a storm is moving in they can basrely get a picture and if you don't specifically request local channels, you won't get them and have to pay extra later to get them added on.
