Hi mylotters! I absolutely hate liver! I cant stand the smell or taste of it. My dad loves it so while I was growing up I got to eat it plenty of times since my mom alwasy made us. I also remember watching the show 'Fear' (I think it was called that, lol) where the contestants had to eat unborn baby chicks! Eeeeuuuuuuwwwwww, groosssssss, yuuuuckkkkk!!!!! So whats the worst food you have ever had? or whats the best? Thanks for any responses and Happy Mylotting!

I would have to say a caramel onion. It was a great prank by my friends, making me think that it was a caramel apple. There is absolutely nothing worse than tasting an onion expecting an apple. So I would warn you to watch out for this, and at the same time, you may consider trying this prank.

As for the worst thing I've ever tasted, I'll stick to food. When my parents took us to Holland when I was I boy, we were introduced to a dish called smort. It happens to be my Dad's favorite. It is nasty stuff. They told me it was an acquired taste which I of course have declined to acquire. My favorite... that is a tough one. I really like good food. I'll go with hot apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

It's called Snert with an N and a E. It's split pea soup with smoked ham, smoked sausage and any kind of veggies you can get your hands on! It is one of my favourite foods growing up dutch canadian, but you gotta like smoky salty flavours and peas.

We are definitely not talking about the same thing here. None of the ingredients you mentioned are in what I'm calling smort. Flavor if I recall reminds me a little bit of plain yogurt. Cultured butter milk might have similarities because my Dad loves that too but I've learned not to try things just because he likes it. I think it is some kind of dairy food.

The worst thing I've ever tasted has got to be a persimmon back when I was about 11 years old. Apparently it wasn't ripe and when I bit into it, it was bitter and made my mouth really dry. My mom offered for me to try one that was ripe, but I wanted nothing to do with persimmons after that. I haven't had any since. LOL I've had liver before, but I was too young to remember, thank goodness!

I totally agree. My mom made us eat it when we were little and I thought it was so gross. She also cooked onions so for me to get it down I smothered with plenty of onions and lots and lots of mustard. Glad to say it has been many years since I have eaten liver and onions and have no plans in the future to ever eat again.

I cannot stand the smell or taste of green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, saurkraut, cooked spinach, liver, tripe and black eyed peas. I could write a book on what I don't like, but the ones I mentioned are the worst ones.

Once I found a recipe for a cauliflower soup. I thought it sounded wonderful and very easy to make. It was HORRIBLE!!! I don't remember how it tasted as much as I remember my daughters going to bed hungry because I refused to make them something else. (I was a mean Mother!) I did throw out the leftovers and we kid about making it again. The girls pick on me about it plenty!! They also hated beef tongue! Sounds gross, but I love it. Yum!

Hi PSmith721! Oh my God I love tongue too! It's weir how I cant stand liver but I love tongue, lol. My husband hates tongue too but it's really not that bad. I dont like the smell of it before its cooked but all kinds of meats kind of smell bad before they are ready to eat. Thanks for your response and Happy Mylotting!

Liver, giblets, and bizzards. My Grandmother maade them once and my parents made us kids eat them. The smell of them was bad enough for me, but the taste....YUCK!!! To this day, I cannot stand the smell of those things and I absolutely refuse to cook them.

Hello there txgrl! I had this very bad experience tasting a a dish that I didn't like. It was a dish cooked with blood. I think it's a specialty to some people. But there was this one thing where my classmates and I were eating in a fastfood and they ordered that dish. As for me, I ordered a different food because I didn't like the way that dish looked. While we were eating, they made me taste that dish. Because they are my friends, I tasted it for friendship's sake. However, when I chewed on the food in my mouth, it was like "yuck". I really had to puke and the result was that my appetite was lost. I'll never again taste it.

Gotta be earwax! The worst thing I have ever tasted is earwax. Yuck! I'm not fond of the texture of squash, oddly enough I like the flavour on some (like pumpkin), but the texture of any other squash just makes me gag.

Hi txgrl, I too loathe liver but compared to a Greek traditional soup served at Easter it could be almost palatable in comparison. 'Mageiritsa soupa' is served at midnight and everyone eats it with great relish. It is a soup made from lambs liver and intestines and any other nasty bits they can find, boiled up together for an hour or so, then they add a lemon and egg sauce to the soup. Worse still it is considered rude to refuse it. I remember the first time I was served it by friends I got a bit down then was looking for the nearest pot plant. My tip now is always to carry a bag big enough to hold some kind of pot or bag to discreetly dispose of unwanted offerings which catch one unawares.

Hi there! Actually I love liver...it's tasty when it's fried, guess not many offal lovers here.. Talking about offal...I hate the intestines!!! I went to this shop where the dish looked pretty decent. When I asked what is this, the waitress told me it's beef's intestines..eewww but yeah..some people love it and some don't. I won't mind trying if I'm on vacation!

Green beans are my arch nemesis. I will start gagging before they even get in my mouth. They are the devils boogies as far as I am concerned. Luckily I have never tried liver. My mother tried feeding it to my big sister before I came along and my sis reacted so badly to it mom never put it on the menu again!

Ah, good ol' Fear Factor. I remember liking that show before it became a complete gross out (anyone remember how they used to do actual fear-inducing stunts?). For me, I'd have to say FISH BONES. I cannot stand them; their texture, their taste, ewwww... Even the smell. I love fresh fish itself, particularly as sashimi, but when fish is fresh it has a light salty smell and that fishy odor that people associate with it means that it's been left at room temperature and is going bad. Maybe that's why I don't like the bones: they taste the way fish would if it were rotten. So, really, I guess my body is protecting me. Incidentally, my boyfriend just came back from a two week stay in Japan and the first thing that he showed me was a big bag of dried and salted eel bones. I nearly threw up on his shoes.

Your post has reminded me of the taste of liver...yuck! Growing up my parents fed it to us on occassion and I tried to smother mine in onions just so I could swallow it. Besides liver it would have to be tomatoes, unless it is completely liquified into a sauce I will not eat it. It makes me gag the instant it hits my mouth. And yet I wish I liked them because it is in so many delicious looking recipes that wouldn't be the same without them. As far as the best food? I am currently on a tempura kick so that is what I would say. Otherwise it would be peanut m&m's, lol.

I cannot stand celery! I hate it... it's nasty. But I think one of the worst things I ever tasted was a bread. My mom was speaking at a lady's meeting at a church of Native Americans. They were very proud of their special bread. It looked very good,,, but it was nasty! I was wishing I could throw it out a window or something. The other worst thing (and I might take the bread over this) was fruit salad... it looked so good, but the white cream in it was mayonnaise! Ugh! I thought it was cool whip or something.... it was gross!!!

I agree with you - offal is awful! Usually, I'll try anything, but I hate all offal and Marmite (Vegemite, for the Australian members). The worst thing I ever tasted was snails. My husband said they were lovely, and I believed him, but to me they tasted like garlic-flavoured snot. (Sorry if I offended anyone, but that is the only way I can describe the taste). My favourite food is paella. I make it with seafood, pork and chicken or just vegetables. As we live in Spain now, I am in paella Heaven! Good topic, thank you.

txgrl21 . . my mom and yours must have been on the same page . .for my mom used to try and serve it for dinner . . and she would try to bury it under onions and ketchup . . it didnt look too bad. .but no matter which way you cut that liver and no matter what you put on top of it. . once it gets into your mouth there is no mistaking something rude, gross and foul is trying to get through. . and sure enough I would have to gag it out. . thank goodness for paper napkins . .cause as soon as she turned around I would spit it out and into a napkin! thanks for the giggle. and happy mylotting to you!

Raw tomatoes. I can honestly say I've never eaten one on purpose. They make my stomach turn. I do not buy them, and I can barely slice them. Oddly enough, Italian food is my favorite. Once you add the sugar and spices and mash those tomatoes up, I think they are dee-lish! The best food? Chocolate, of course!
