Has anyone else read the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher? I'm about a third of the way through the first book, Furies of Calderon, and I'm struggling with it. It feels like it's one of those books that will get better toward the end if I just struggle through the set up but I'm having a really tough time motivating myself to struggle through. Especially after reading Butcher's other series, The Dresden Files, which are such easy, fast reads. Just tell me, if you have read Furies of Calderon, is it worth trudging through the mire of the first half to get to the good stuff?

Hope you made it through it! As I think that the books in the middle are better than the first and the last :-) If I had to chose, I'd have to go for the Dresden files, as they're funnier, but I really liked the Codex Alera. But I'm a bit miffed that now Jim Butcher has finished them, the next Dresden book is comine months later than usual! Although this time it'll come after both teaching and exams are finished, which is probably just as well.
