What do you check for in your yard when you get home?

Every day when i get home I automatically check for new trash (my dog likes to bring it in from the highway) my dogs and cats and to make sure anything like chairs, mowers and equipment arent missing. The reason I'm asking is because on Saturday my dad was giving me a rough time for not noticing that he moved one of the graineries from my house to their house. He says "how could you not notice it was gone? My response was it was behind the trees and i wasnt usually concerned about a building being stolen or missing. So what do you look for? Would you notice a building missing thats behind some trees and not very close to the house missing?

I usually check to see if there is mail as I pull around the corner. I dont really look for anything else. Although I would definitely notice if something was missing. We have a tiny yard because we live in a townhouse. There is one thing that I wish someone would steal!

What is it you wish people would steal?? When i was in the states it just baffled me that the mailboxes were at the edge of the road and not even locked....here you either go to the post office and get your mail or a lock box on the block...some places have it delivered to their door.

Don't you have a spring cleaning pick up day where they will take big things?

You can get some mailboxes that lock. We dont get much of anything in the mail so it isnt important. I do know that there are people who have had problems with their mail being stolen. So I agree that it is a silly system because people cant be trusted like that anymore! When the previous owners moved out, they left a bunch of stuff because the were moving into an apartment. Some of it was great - the washer and dryer, the lawn mower, the grill - because it meant that we didnt have to buy them. But they also left this stupid homemade (welded together) cart that they used for soap box racing. The trashmen wont take it and my husband never seems to get around to cutting it apart so we can put it in the trash. It just sits in the yard now because we dont have room for it in the shed. I hate it! I was pretty angry that the previous owners left it! (But I couldnt complain because we still use a bunch of the other stuff 4 years later)

The main thing I check first when pulling into my yard is if anyone is home. I check to see which vehicles are there so I am aware of who is there and who is not.

Thats a good thing to check for. I generally dont really look for other cars in my yard unless i'm expecting someone.

The first thing I look for myself is trash as well. I also check to see what kind of mess my kids make in the backyard with their toys. That's often the mess that I clean up first before I start my daily yard maintenance. I live in the suburbs so everything is locked up tight in my backyard, so I don't generally look to see if anything is missing.

I live on a farm and tend to have some shovels or the lawn mower out but tucked out of sight from the highway.

i have no pets, but i always look for trash from our neighbors house. they don't clean their lawn very well, and let trash from their garbage can fly around. sometimes i just stare at the weeds, that my dad said he would weedd, but never gets around to. now im not very observant, so i probably wouldn't motice a building missing thats behind some trees and not very close to the house. i just don't pay attention to stuff like that.

Garbage does fly around - it drives me nuts when stuff blows in off the highway...even more nuts when my dog drags it in.
