Well we pulled our kids out of school half way through the year because the school was just not doing a good job. My second grader had a kindergarten reading level! The best advise I can give is go to the K12.com website. There you can take a link to find the cyber school in your area. I cannot even begin to express what a life saver they have been to our family. They supply the equipment and books as well as the online coarses. They are regulated through your state and use your school taxes as funding so you will not have to pay for anything. The curriculum is wonderful my kids love being online for school and it takes all the pressure off you the parent as they supply basic scheduals and planning sheets. Now after 4 months our now 3rd grader is at the correct reading leval. That is 2 full grades higher then in Feb. when she was first tested. We have off for the summer but are geared up to continue this upcoming fall.

This comment is such a relief to me! My kids have already been accepted to the K12 school. My son, who will be starting the third grade this fall, was at about the K-1st grade level. So many people told me to put him on medicine, but the place I had him tested at told me that even though he has a mild form of ADD, he isn't hyperactive, he just needs to have his attention span directed less towards playing and more towards school work. They helped us put him on a very structured learning system, and its working! At school he had three recesses a day, and they were watching movies like Kung Fu Panda for a PE class. They learned nothing about Science or History all year. So, after looking into K12, I was really excited about the curriculum. After losing my 15 year job when they found out I was pregnant, I am currently a SAHM, so we talked about it and decided it was best for the kids to be homeschooled so maybe they will learn something. I am happy to hear K12 works!

My son is little bit young for schooling. But when the time that he needs for schooling i won't homeschooling him. I want him to experienced to socialize, make friends and enjoy outside and learned more of his environment, and of course i am sending him in a good and safe school.
I do understand why you homeschooling your child. When you can find a good and safe area, send you child at school for a new experienced outside home.

Congratulations for homeschooling your children! Some of the most intelligent and well-read people I know were homeschooled.
My mom homeschooled my teenage sister this year. The private school my sister was attending is not worth the tuition costs--there are no electives (music, theatre, art, etc), and the textbooks were not very good.
If I could recommend anything for homeschooling moms, it would be to find a way to relieve stress. I tutored my sister for two of her classes, and trying to keep her on track and on schedule ended up being pretty stressful for both me and my mom (she is a teenager, after all!)

As a homeschooling mother of ten who just finished up her eighteenth year homeschooling, (and to brag, one of my totally homeschooled son is now in law school)I would say please do not try and imitate the public school system. The most important thing to do is have really good quality, classic books for your child to read, and give them lots of hands on experiences. As the years went by, we finally got to where we only HAD to do and grade one textbook, and that was math. We use many other things for the other subjects, and my children have all excelled.
